Weston-super-Mare: a Quiet Break
You may be forgiven for thinking that the North Somerset Town of Weston-super-Mare is a sleepy old retirement village. It certainly has its quiet places but it has a lot to offer if you are looking for a relaxing short break. Somerset, as a whole, is a beautiful county.

Holidaying with Teens
I suppose I am lucky in that my children are happy to do anything. They usually enjoy whatever we do and are generally content whether having a picnic in the garden, going to the beach, visiting museums or taking part in more active pursuits like country walks or archery.

Catholic Saints Feast Days - August
In the Christian calendar, there is a Saint's Feast Day every day. In August, there are several Saints celebrated on each day. For example, there are four different Saints whose Feast day is celebrated on 6 August while 17 August is shared between 25 different Saints. Overall there are hundreds of Saints celebrated in the month of August alone.

Charlemagne and the Witches
Research into the history of witchcraft shows that it is varied in both practice and opinion. For centuries, witches lived peacefully and would be called upon as healers. During the early days of Catholicism, Pagans and Catholics continued to live happily side-by-side. Subsequent centuries saw the Roman Catholic Church attempt to draw people into the religion in various ways. Initially by having priests who performed rituals similar to those practised by witches, then by usurping holy days, bastardising Pagan symbols and images, and purporting that witchcraft was evil.

Shared Birthdays
Given that there are more than 7 billion people on the planet and only 365 (or 366) days in a year, it is clearly impossible for every person in the world to have a different birthday. Taking smaller groups (ie. groups whose members number fewer than 365), the chance of everyone having different birthdays would increase. It is simply a matter of odds.

Comte de Saint Germain
I wrote about Comte de Saint Germain a few years ago. Unfortunately, I no longer have the original article. Before I wrote it, though, I had never heard of this man. I don't actually remember how I discovered him or why. I was recently reminded of him during an episode of Warehouse 13.
