TASTY ALASKAN BLUEBERRIES THAT MAKE A GREAT PIE
I live in Alaska and every year in August we go and pick the bounty full berries. One berry is the Blueberry, the other berries that are popular: High Bush Cranberries, Low Bush Cranberries, Rose HIps, the Red Current berries, the Wild Strawberries, Salmonberries, Huckleberries, Gooseberries, Elderberries all grow in Alaska! Every year in the middle of August Alaskans pick berries. The berries are made into pies, jams, jelly, juice, they are put into many recipes. I have made a lot of Jam with the Huckleberries and low bush Cranberries. When I pick the cranberries I use a berry picker. I can harvest a lot of berries with the tool. Picking Blueberries, Rose Hips, and Wild Strawberries I use my hand to pick them. Rose Hips have a lot of vitamin C. when harvesting Rose Hips each berry has to be opened and the seeds taken out of them. I put them in a sunny space to dry and they are used in many cooking recipes.

THE BEST SALMON IS COOKED THE ALASKAN WAY
I did not know I loved to fish until I came to Alaska to live! I did go fishing with my dad a few times but I was very young. We went fishing for flounders. or flatfish, they like to be on the bottom of the sea. In Alaska, the fish are called Halibut and they can grow over 500lbs! I went Halibut fishing with my husband and caught a 90lb and my husband caught one at 250lbs. They can grow very big in the Alaska waters! As a family, we came to Alaska in the year 1978. We learned real fast how to fish for salmon and other fish. My husband loved to go hunting and fishing, all the outdoor activities. Living in Alaska is way different than living in the lower forty- eight states! When summer hits the one activity to do is go fishing and fill up the freezer. Alaska has long winter's and the fish which was caught will be of help in your wallet.

THE BIG V IS FOR ME VEGAN
It all started two years ago, my very first bout with colitis! I did not feel good and a good thing my friend was helping me with the housework. I went to my bed with a stomach ache. I thought it would go away, but it kept on getting worse. I had to go to the bathroom and I felt like vomiting too! As I was walking to the bathroom I fainted. My toy poodle ran and got my friend and she saw me on the floor. I heard her call my name but I could not get up from the floor. My friend called my daughter and my daughter told her to call the paramedics. The paramedics came and took me to the hospital. My daughter came to the hospital and told me how my dog Smokie got her to come to me. I said he is smart, poodles are very smart and Smokie had a college degree! I asked my daughter where is Smokie she said home. I said well He needs to have a big treat!

THE CAUSE OF THE BIG LAKE FIRE
I will never forget that day in June my husband came home and told me his friend is coming to our house. My husband wanted to make sure the boat we had did not have any leaks. The way to do it was to put the boat in the water at Big Lake Alaska When his friend came we all headed to Big Lake. It was windy and warm that day. When we arrived at Big Lake they put the boat in the water. I waited onshore for them to come back, I was watching my husband. He was close to the shore checking the motor on the boat. I thought to myself we did not have to come here. Why make the ten minute trip and waste gas in the car! I knew the boat was in great condition and the motor was too. But better to be safe than sorry! My husband was going down the river with the boat and he wanted it in tip-top condition. They were playing around on the lake and having a good time,

THE ONE SECRET INGREDIATE FOR MAKING BREAD PUDDING
There isn't anything better than eating Bread Pudding. In my Italian family, my mom made the best bread pudding. My dad loved it so did I and my sisters. My mom would put raisins in it and when she took it out of the oven we all could not wait to eat it. Sometimes she would serve it to us with ice cream. Boy was that good we all wanted more bread pudding with ice cream. My mom liked to cook and bake and taught me and my two siblings to cook and bake too. Making bread pudding is pretty easy but if you have never made it before it could be overwhelming. In my Italian family, my mom always made sure everyone ate first. Then she would serve her self last and eat. No one walked away from the table hungry.

One day it all happened suddenly! The Bald Eagle and Chevy, Chevy is a half Pit Bull and Black Lab. He loves people but animals well that is a different story. Chevy does not like other animals at all and that is why he almost had a Bald Eagle for lunch one day!! My daughter lives next to Fish Creek there is a lot of fish in the creek. Bald Eagles love to go there to catch the fish and eat them! We see a lot of Bald Eagles living in Alaska it is nothing new to Alaskans. One day my daughter put Chevy out on his run. He was doing his business and wining because he was outside and his master was inside. He is just a big baby and he wanted back in the home! My daughter did not pay any attention to what was happening outside. Then Chevy starts barking and my daughter yells at him to stop. What she didn't realize is Chevy was barking at a Bald Eagle!

MEET THE ALASKA NORTHERN LIGHTS
Alaska The Last Frontier and the Land Of The Midnight Sun! Years ago when Alaska was owned by Rusia, Rusia sold Alaska to the United States for Pennies on a Dollar! Only one man thought it was a good place to buy. They call it Sewards Follie, but no one knew how important Alaska was to America. They did not know about all the wealth that Alaska has. Rusia just wanted to make a buck and luckily America bought. Alaska is the 50th state in the union. It is bigger than any state too. Not only Alaska has all this wealth it has the Northern Lights, and it is the Last Frontier. It is also called the Land Of The Midnight Sun! It is called that because there is daylight until way early in the morning!

Then I taught my two daughters to cook and they are great cooks! I like to cook for my family but cooking just for my self not so much! I learned to cook many different meals, Italian and American. I learned to cook spaghetti and meatballs. I learned to cook pizza and many other Italian dishes. I am a senior now and I can cook all the Italian dishes my mom taught me years ago!

OUR AMAZING GREATEST FRIEND!
One day my son-in-law met our best friend at work. He did not know it then but he met an Angel! I say that because my son-in-law was laid off work after he became friends with her. He and my daughter was low on food, I helped them out but it could not compare to our best friend. When my daughter went to visit her they gave my daughter enough food for a month. When I was told about it I thought to my self what wonderful people they had for a friend! My daughter visited her often and again they would feed my daughter and her family for another month! Then one day I met her!

I was on the go the whole month of November and December. A little vacation doesn't hurt anyone, and I defiantly needed one!

MY GREAT PARENTS
It was long ago my parents met while Ice skating. My mom fell and my dad went to help her get up from the cold Ice! From then on it was a love story of great proportions! Six months later they married, and then I was born into their world. When I was born my dad was the best man at his brother's wedding and my mom was in the hospital. At the wedding, everyone congratulated my dad. He told them he had a baby girl and his wife was at the hospital. When the wedding was over he went home and went to sleep.

MY LOVELY TATTOO
It all happened when I was visiting my parents in Connecticut! My niece asked me if I wanted to get a tattoo, I told her Yes. The next day she had off work and we went to the tattoo place. When we arrived there we talked to the artist and let her know what we wanted. I wanted the tattoo on my ankle, and I wanted a picture of a vine with a bird on it. My niece wanted a more simple tattoo than I did. We waited in the waiting room for about an hour. Then the artist called us into the room and showed the drawing to us. I said to her I really liked it and I wanted her to do it. My niece also liked hers and she wanted the artist to do the tattoo. The artist cautioned us it would hurt. I told her that I could stand the pain and I wanted it done.
