I Was Born With the Devil In Me
Born Herman Webster Mudgett in a small town in New Hampshire, it was thought that this young man would turn his intelligence into a passionate career as a medical doctor. For Herman Mudgett was impassioned regarding the medical field, even rumored to have assisted the local doctor in his birth town as a young man. Mudgett enrolled initially at the University of Vermont at the age of eighteen but left after being dissatisfied with his first-year studies. He transferred his studies to the University of Michigan, focusing on surgical procedures. Mudgett completed his studies at the University of Michigan Medical School in the year 1884, however, a widowed woman making claims about his proposal to a baseless marriage nearly thwarted his graduation.

More Than Just a Planner
Since I was a toddler wearing overalls and pigtails, I was constantly exploring and reaching for my mother’s orange handled crafting scissors, wanting to create a new craft or learn something new. From different genres of books to the types of trees, species of birds, learning crafts, and finding rocks in my backyard to paint, my imagination was vivid and tactile. I craved learning and creating from the days of finger painting on construction paper onward. This turned into my exploration of different arts and crafts. I bounced from activity to activity – calligraphy, making tiny houses from kits, writing, crochet, designing my own greeting cards for family members, diamond paintings, paper dolls – you name it, I’ve probably explored it. What I haven’t explored, is on my to-do list.
