It's almost 4th of July and you know what that means! A flood of missing pet reports on Nextdoor, a plea to your neighbors not to pop fireworks in the middle of the night, and a shortage of acepromazine, Trazadone, and gabapentin from your veterinary office.

The final birthday gift. Content Warning.
In 2020, my mother and I had an epic fight over the phone. It was about my little sister's privacy in her relationship. It was one of the first times we, as her children, asserted our boundaries where there had been none before. And she did not like it. Shortly after, my father began sending me strange messages about the clients he counseled and how their children were saying nasty things about them behind their backs. He told me how happy he was that his children didn't talk about him behind his back. It was weird. His work wasn't something we usually discussed, and something about it felt... off.

How I reparent myself through my pets Part 2
I didn’t realize how successful my first article would be. And when I say successful I mean that “How I reparent myself through my pets” has over 100 reads on Vocal. After writing it I realized I have much more to say about the subject so this is part two. I will explain more about the triggers that I have learned through my pets, how I have responded to them, and how I have learned and grown into being a peaceful and understanding person for my pets and myself.

The Mother
The mother dragged her weary tail through the forest floor, her golden scales tinkled over the dry autumn leaves and scraped the sides of the pine trees. The scent of the cindering dwellings and charred bodies of their kind billowed in the smoky air. Brittle bones dried from dragon’s fire cracked and splintered under her talons. Her wolf-like head hung low as her black winged arms followed the footstep of grief and delirious exhaustion. Her sides heaved as she panted while the thought of her nest pulled her home. The familiarity to return still lingered in her spine as reality cruelly reminded her of the unbelievable truth.

My heart dog
From the first moment we look into our pets eyes, we understand that someday we will face great heartbreak. It’s the burden we bear as pet lovers. But, where would we be without them? Who wants a quiet home when you could have the howl of a husky or the tapping of nails on the floor or furniture and everything else covered in hair? You never have to use the bathroom alone again because your squad is coming with and they have your back.

How I reparent myself through my pets
Beginning to understand my spiritual journey began with taking a look at my big emotions. Mainly anger. Which may surprise some of my friends and family because I generally come across as a nice, funny girl who is laid back and goes with the flow. That is of course, unless you are my husband or pets. For some strange reason when I’m inside my home I could really let out my angry side. And it all began after a session of reaming my husband for something that I thought was an acceptable offense that deserved my yelling and lecturing him while he sat on the couch silently staring at the television. After my point was made and I felt like I had justified my actions and felt pretty damn good about myself he approached me with an ultimatum. It was my anger and actions that had my husband rightfully defending his safety and emotional wellbeing. To be honest at first I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes, even mocked him a little until it sunk in. He was going to leave me because I hurt him so much by my outburst of emotion which was devastating on his wellbeing in our home, and this wasn’t the first time. It suddenly clicked, I listened to him and took him seriously. I was an angry person, and I felt justified and comfortable hurting the person I loved the most with the actions and behavior I thought was acceptable.
