Does 'Top Gun' Really Need A Sequel? Why Maverick Should Stay In The '80s
5/23/2017 Update: The Top Gun sequel is happening after all. When #TopGun hit the movie theaters on May 16, 1986, it took in more than $8 million its opening weekend, which doesn't seem like a lot, especially considering it had a $15 million budget. But the following weeks proved fruitful, and the blockbuster went on to nab over $356 million in box office receipts before it left the screens. Odds are good some of those numbers were from repeat viewers, as Top Gun had the perfect mixture of action, romance, comedy and drama.

Actors come and go on television, and most of the time, we've already heard the news and can prepare ourselves for the inevitable. We don't like it, but it's going to happen regardless of how we feel. When actors decide to leave, we face their on-screen deaths like Patrick Dempsey on Grey's Anatomy or Jimmy Smits on NYPD Blue. Those deaths can be traumatizing, and we cry along with the cast as they say goodbye.

Why Fans Will Miss Thursdays Without The CW's 'Beauty' And Her 'Beast'
On September 15th, Beauty and the Beast aired its series finale on the CW, leaving an empty slot on addicted fans' viewing schedule. The drama, loosely based upon the series created by Ron Koslow in 1987, focused on the impossible relationship between a police detective turned federal agent and a doctor who'd been turned into a "beast" due to a failed military experiment. Though the ratings were never that strong, the series earned a People's Choice Awards in 2013 for Favorite New TV Drama, and in 2014, 2015 and 2016 for Favorite Sci-fi/Fantasy Show.

Charmed actress Shannen Doherty is battling breast cancer in the public eye, fighting the dreaded disease with the grace and strength that's made her who she is. Thomas Gibson: Why The Fired 'Criminal Minds' Star Deserves Another Chance
My admiration for Thomas Gibson began way back in 1994 when I first saw him on Chicago Hope. A gifted actor, Gibson was born and raised in my hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Perhaps that colors my opinion of him, but it doesn't change his talent.

4 Powerful Life Lessons 'Xena Warrior Princess' Taught Us
In 1995, Lucy Lawless helped change the face of television with her portrayal of Xena Warrior Princess. Some say she paved the way for other strong female female leads like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sydney Bristow of Alias. Girls and young women saw a heroine that took charge, forged ahead, and got the job done. Beyond that, they saw a woman who owned her world.

Bringing The Dark Series To Television: An Interview With Author Christine Feehan
When Christine Feehan's Dark Series debuted in 1999 with 'Dark Prince,' the book took the reading community by storm. Though appealing to lovers of vampire romance, the books showed a different side of the undead, making them unappealing beings to be avoided. We were introduced to the Carpathians, a race of unbelievably powerful, immortal beings that could shapeshift into exotic animals, control the minds of humans, fly, and battle the most heinous of beings. They could do everything....except live without love.

5 Excruciating TV Death Scenes That Caught Us By Surprise
We've all been there, settled in our favorite spot on the sofa to watch the show we've been waiting for all week. We've read that this particular episode is going to be a game-changer, and we're ready for it. At least, we think we are...until we a popular character dies. Wait a minute! There had been no inkling of this person leaving the show. We should have been warned, but that's the way writers keep us off-guard, never letting us get too comfortable with characters because they could be here one day and gone the next. Let's take a look at five character's deaths we weren't expecting and aren't sure we'll ever forgive the writers. As an FYI, there are many other deaths I could have included, but these are ones that are still painful for me to watch.

'Star Trek'—Celebrating 50 Years of Logical Friendship
When I saw the original Star Trek for the first time, it had already been off the air for several years. Though much time had passed, the show captured my attention like it must have the original Trekkies back in 1966. Though the space and science fascinated me, the characters drew me in more. I couldn't imagine a human and a half-alien being best friends.
