Are we alone?
Are we alone? The sonar picked up the first indications, long before the view in the periscope showed anything. Even with the magnified view, the horizon was empty. Yet the continuous beep from the sonar demanded attention. The officer of the watch decided against a general action stations but she did call the captain.

History in context
History in context History should only be taught when in the context of the relevant age. Explaining that at some time back in history, people did things that we now find reprehensible, is fine if the teaching includes information about the "standards," the understanding, the knowledge of that time. Just telling anyone that something, that is now illegal, was then commonly practised, makes those with less experience believe it was a criminal act at the time it occurred, so they make a moral judgement on people in history, a judgement that is flawed.

Criminals or victims?
Criminals or victims? Do victims who later become antisocial, need forgiveness or punishment ? The whole question of crime and punishment has been subject to debates for hundreds of years, in democracies those opposed to punishment tend, not exclusively, to be people with more socialist political beliefs.

Saving the plant, marketing ploy or reality
Saving the planet-- marketing ploy or reality? Can we really save the plant while ignoring population numbers? Is the slogan “we must save the planet,” the greatest marketing and sales aid ever found? Or is it really possible to reverse global climate change without halving the total population of the world? Would halving the population actually cause a reversal of climate change?

Why are conspiracy theories so common
Why are “conspiracy theories” so common? Why do conspiracy theories have so many believers? Throughout human history there has always been the idea that some sinister group are manipulating the whole population, for their own ends. In some ways history shows that human religious leaders did conspire to control the general population, this was in the periods of time when literacy was rare and so those who controlled what was written, what was recorded and what was read out to the majority of the people; did control and manipulate the rest of us.

City minds should never be allowed to Govern
City minds should not be allowed to govern. The “city” type of world view, will destroy us all After nearly 80 years of observation it has become apparent that, although there are an infinite number of stages between these two extremes, there are just two basic types of thinking. That is minds that think city thoughts and minds that think country thoughts.

The Hypocrisy of judging history
The hypocrisy of judging history Retrospectively applying moral judgment is potentially dangerous There does seem to be a trend towards trying to obliterate truth about “history;” attempts are made to punish descendants- many generations later- for events that were perfectly legal in the period in which they were committed. There are also attempts to delete the truth about these historic events, the prevailing knowledge and opinions of the period in which the events occurred, from the base knowledge of future generations.

Refusing to accept democracy
Refusing to accept democracy Is this the death of democracy? The refusing to accept democratic decisions is going to destroy democracy itself. From Brexit to Trump. From Corbyn and Momentum to reclaim the streets, from Black lives matter to extinction rebellion. Protests and demonstration against a democratically arrived at decision, are gaining strength and power. This will end in the destruction of democracy itself. Why would anyone want a democratically arrived at result when this result will lead to bloodshed, violence and destruction? What will emerge is a fascist dictatorship; because the leader will promise an end to the protests, riots and the arrogant chicanery of the “establishment” such as that which tried so hard to prevent Brexit.
