'Rebirth' (2016). Top Story - May 2018.
Hey, you still have the Manifesto?The what?The Manifesto, man.Don’t tell me you threw it away. Rebirth is a psychological thriller of the Netflix collection. I certainly won’t deny that I have become a fervent supporter of the Netflix Originals series. I’ve seen already some great movies (Spectral, iBoy, Before I Wake, and Message from the King). And also some less successful experiments (Mute and Death Note eg). Rebirth is a special case and ends somewhere in the middle. In essence, it’s not such a bad movie, but there were certain aspects that made me really hate it. Some will even find it an annoying film. I still don’t know whether I should take this film seriously or not. If it was meant to be serious and tried to create an image of how similar organizations function, then it was rather frightening. If, however, it was meant to be satirical, I guess I haven’t noticed it then. For me, it wasn’t really funny.

'Walking Out' (2017)
“I’ll put myself between you and any bear.I promise.” Walking Out is a story about a father and son who experience their annual get-together again and try to strengthen the wafer-thin bond that still exists between them. In addition, it’s also a story about survival in the wild nature. The well-known story of man against nature and defying all sorts of hardships. If you see a summary somewhere that mentions some fierce-looking bears and their behavior towards this moose chasing couple, then you shouldn’t get too excited. Because this section is just like the rest of the film. Fairly common. So don’t expect exciting images as in Backcountry or The Revenant.

'Mute' (2018)
Why the hell can’t he talk anyway?It’s complicated.It’s his mother’s fault.He needs surgery.It’s against her beliefs. Fortunately, Alexander Skarsgård isn’t, by nature, a voiceless person. It would have been a strange sight, him appearing in The Legend of Tarzan, swinging around with his mouth wide open, but no sound that cuts through the jungle so everyone could hear that well-known primal cry. In Mute, he’s such a person with no sound leaving his mouth. And that because of a painful confrontation with the propeller of a motorboat (I suppose). What remains is a guy with the body of Tarzan and whose communication capacity is similar to that of Tarzan. Pretty flawed.

'The Cloverfield Paradox' (2018)
If you go… you and I will survive.I’m afraid if you don’t …No one will. Cloverfield was a unique film. Lots of fans were looking forward to a sequel to this amusing found footage monster film. The sequel 10 Cloverfield Lanecame eight years later. It didn’t feel like this film had anything to do with the initial film until the end of the movie. It’s clear this one was situated after the events from Cloverfield. And then suddenly this Netflix release pops up from nowhere. The Cloverfield Paradox tries to explain why all that shit started to happen in Manhattan. Yep, again it’s about prequel and sequel stuff. And there’s nothing I hate more than prequel and sequel nonsense. It’s obvious this movie tries to connect with the original Cloverfield films, as you can clearly see on the movie poster.

'47 Meters Down' (2017)
“Lisa, you need to calm down.We need to get out of here!If you do not calm down, we will die here!” In The Shallows, Blake Lively at least had a rock in the ocean on which she sat safely while a huge shark circled around her. That was frightening enough. In 47 Meters down, two helpless women are trapped in a steel cage while being attacked by such bloodthirsty, basking sharks. And there’s another problem they have to deal with: Oxygen deficiency. There are more pleasant ways to spend your holiday somewhere at an exotic destination. So you see, it’s better to follow your instinct (or someone else’s) in such a way that you are spared from such life-threatening situations.

'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' (2017)
“I think we got, like, sucked into the game.And we’ve become the avatars that we chose.” I was sure about one thing. A remake of Jumanji is the same as repainting the Mona Lisa and exhibiting this copy; ridiculous, inglorious, and unnecessary. I was afraid this movie would be ridiculed and laughed with. And on top of that, they’ve asked Dwayne Johnson to join. Not exactly an actor you’ll see in what they call the “better” films. I thought it would be something like Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and that I would curse the makers afterwards because they dared to copy a milestone with the late Robin Williams starring in it. For once, however, I have to admit that I was wrong. It’s been a long time since I’ve amused myself so much while watching a movie.
