Review of 'True Story'
As the year quickly draws to a close, I wanted to tell you that True Story, a seven-episode mini-series my wife and I finished watching last night on Netflix, has to be one of the best crime dramas of year. That's right. Clean out of the ballpark with a fast-moving story that manages to pull the rug out at the end of just about every episode.

Review of 'Don't Look Up'
I'm going to check in with a rare pan for me of a science fiction film. Rare not because I love every science fiction movie I've ever seen, but because I usually review only movies that I think are worth seeing. But I'm making an exception with Don't Look Up, because the issue it addresses -- the end of human existence -- is obviously so important. The movie serves up a variety of narratives and storylines, and, in the end, I think most of them are not worth watching.

Review of 'Station Eleven' 1.4-1.5
Well, if you thought Station Eleven wasn't dead serious, you'll give up any hope that it wasn't after you've seen episodes 1.4-5, up on HBO Max today. No, only kidding, of course. This is a series about the near extinction of the human species, so how could it not be deadly serious? But I wasn't really kidding, if that makes any sense. As serious and to-the-core frightening as this narrative was from the get-go, it's even more, a lot more so, after these two new episodes.

Review of 'The Matrix Resurrections'
I just saw The Matrix Resurrections on HBO Max. It may be the best Matrix since The Matrix -- that is, the first movie, so I'm saying Resurrections may be better than the two earlier sequels, certainly better than the third in the original trilogy, Revolutions.

Review of 'Station Eleven' 1.1-1.3
With Apple TV+'s run of superb science fiction -- Foundation, Invasion, and Finch -- temporarily on pause, it looks like HBO Max has picked up the slack with a powerful new series, Station Eleven, a new Matrix movie up next week, and the first half of Dune this past October.

Review of 'The Sinner' Season 4
The Sinner starring Bill Pullman as Harry Ambrose came to a hard end earlier this month -- hard in terms of it was not only the end of the season but the series (unless another enlightened network or streaming service picks it up), and hard in terms of everything is difficult for Harry, as he tries to navigate his life through the murders and mayhem he's always prone to investigate.

Review of 'Narcos: Mexico' 3
I really enjoyed the third and final season of Narcos: Mexico, and regret that there won't be another season, devoted to Chapo. Yeah, I know there have been other series and movies about Chapo, but his story deserves to be done up in the inimitable Narcos way, especially his ingenious escape via tunnels, which (as I've mentioned before ) I've always admired. When I was kid living in the Bronx, I used to think that the best way of escaping police if they were after me was to dig a big tunnel under the Hudson and up to the Catskills. Fortunately, I didn't commit any crimes and they never came after me.
