Annabelle
Hauntings and possessions are terrifying enough on their own without the haunted object being a normal doll. I do not know what it is about haunted dolls that scares me more than the idea of a ghost knocking over objects in a house, but I would rather stay three days and nights in a haunted home than to own a haunted doll. Maybe it is because dolls are supposed to be toys, or maybe it is the fact that my own daughter has several dolls of her own and I would be terrified to wake up in the middle of the night with it looming over me. But that is exactly what happened to Donna after her mother bought her a seemingly normal doll as a birthday gift.

The Man Who Killed Halloween. Top Story - October 2023. Content Warning.
Halloween. A time when children dress up and take to the streets to collect candy from their neighborhoods. Ghouls, ghosts, vampires and witches go door to door and say “Trick-or-Treat!” while holding bags or buckets out awaiting a handful of candy. Most parents don’t think much of the candy their kids get, doing a cursory look over the pieces looking for the obvious signs of tampering. But what happens when parents don’t? Or, what if the tampering isn’t something that jumps out at you right away? What if the person who did the tampering is a child’s own parent? This is exactly what happened in Texas in 1974. Every parent’s worst Halloween nightmare came true.

Andrea Yates
This story is tragic, both for the five children who lost their lives and for the mother who suffered for many years with a severe mental illness. Before going any further, I would like to warn that this story contains talk of suicidal ideation, attempt, and the murder of children.

The Battle in My Mind
I remember sitting anxiously in the doctor’s office wondering if I truly needed to be there. I had considered turning back several times on the drive there and I continued to question it as my two-year-old ran circles around and the baby cried no matter what I did to try and calm her. Was I really depressed? It could just be a change in hormones. Maybe I’m just going crazy. Oh, how I wished that were true. To be honest, I probably should have gone to a doctor several years before.
