Fighting Drug Addiction After Prison

After a period of time, fighting drug addiction after prison is not always easy. Many former inmates return to the same environment that caused them to become addicted to drugs. This triggers the urge to use, and the drug habit is often continued, eventually leading to an overdose or death. One study showed that nearly half of all inmates with addictions relapse within a month of being released. Additionally, former prisoners who have been out of prison for two weeks or less are twice as likely to experience a fatal overdose.
