I’m Autistic, But I Don’t Have Meltdowns When Routines Change
“Daily routines” — an AI-generated artwork I prepared in starryai. One of the typical traits people associate with autism is the need for repetition and routines. For many of us autistic people, routines are very important. A change in plans can wreak havoc and bring a meltdown. In some cases, I can get frustrated if something was supposed to happen but failed. But anybody else does, too, every now and then. I am fine if plans change. I do not mind if half of the groceries on my shopping list are out of stock. I will come up with something else to cook for dinner. A friend could cancel their arrival at the last moment… well, maybe that is a bit disappointing, but going to a place other than initially agreed upon is perfectly fine.

The Elusive Feeling of Being Energetic
Feeling empowered gives you a boost towards achieving your goals and dreams. (Photo: sasing on Pixabay) This will be a bit of a personal post. I have had a difficult year for various reasons, but they all combined were leaving me totally drained and, at times, unable to take care of my home properly, and I had to take a prolonged sick leave. This was not fun.

Why goal-setting and task organisation apps do not work for everyone
You know the feeling, right? You want to get rid of the bad habits and pursue your goals with full determination at all times. Various apps and tools are advertised to help you with that and solve your problems. Sure, they are nice. I also use my phone to organise my day… just that…

In my own world
Do you know the feeling when you just want to be alone and not disturbed by anything or anyone? There are plenty of nice and fun things out there but yet hiding in one’s nest feels the best option. For some people, avoiding others implies that you are offended, so you don’t want to speak to them. It’s hard to explain unless you have experienced it yourself.

To my dearest human
Hey, it's me, Betty. You're not surprised that I'm speaking human language, are you? You know that I understand every single word of yours. I've watched you and listened to you ever since I came to your home some 13 years ago. I still remember how scary it was when they separated me from my mum and my siblings. Yet, I was ready to explore the big world. I was the tiniest of us, so I had to learn how to outsmart them. This turned out useful later.

The Cost of Success
Many parents tell their children to be good boys/girls, ace their studies and you will succeed in life. While it makes sense to an extent, it is not 100% true. What it certainly causes is burnout. You will feel miserable. You are a loser in your own eyes. You are underperforming and wasting your potential. In the end, you spend months and even years trying to recover.

I am autistic, not an alien
The challenges Being autistic has its challenges. It is a fact that we live in a world led by and meant for neurotypical individuals. When you stand out from the crowd, you tend to be the odd one out. Being different is kind of forbidden; it seems to be a bad thing.

You Fool, You Failed Again! — A Life Lesson on Perfectionism
There are times when one feels ashamed of their mistakes. You may worry that others will see you as incompetent or unworthy if they know about your errors. This leads to a perfectionist mindset, where you feel the need to strive for flawlessness in everything you do. While this drive can sometimes lead to notable accomplishments, it also often results in tremendous stress and anxiety. Falling short of one’s own high standards feels like a personal failure, which can be incredibly demoralising. Ultimately, trying to be perfect is both exhausting and fruitless — It is impossible to achieve flawless results 100% of the time, so why bother? Instead, it is important to forgive oneself for mistakes and move on; after all, nobody is perfect!
