Once upon a time in a faraway land in the East, there lived a poor boy named Aladdin. He was kind-hearted but lazy, and he lived with his widowed mother in a small hut. They had very little to eat and wore old, torn clothes. Though they were poor, Aladdin and his mother were good people who always helped others when they could.

Trees were shedding their leaves, the grass had turned brown, and the heat was unbearable. Birds and animals were hiding in their shelters to escape the heat. Among them was a clever little crow who had been flying for hours in search of water.

She had laid several eggs and was now waiting patiently for them to hatch. One fine morning, one by one, the eggs began to crack, and out came several fluffy, yellow ducklings.
