The Rise and Fall of KIWI International: A Flightless Bird's Journey
KIWI International was born from necessity, much like a flightless bird striving to regain its wings. Following the collapse of several airlines, particularly Eastern Airlines, many former airline employees, mostly Newark-based pilots, found themselves unemployed. Inspired by the flightless kiwi bird from New Zealand, they set out to create a company that would reflect their own quest to regain both their wings and their livelihoods.

The Oculus Rift has some great content out already that you’ve probably already checked out. There are some fun games, interesting apps and of course the huge volume of 3D Rift videos. The Video app has some great offerings that will entertain, amaze and even give you some next level scares. If you haven’t checked out the VR version of ‘The Ring’ yet I highly recommend it. Just don’t do it before bed. Despite all of this content there is one thing missing; the ability to play videos on the Rift that aren’t a part of the ‘official’ Oculus Rift library. The plan it seems is to limit you to only official content to make more money. This is annoying but you can get around it. So how do you play your own video on the Rift? Let’s take a look.

Not that long ago if you wanted to buy a new video game you had to jump in the car, drive to your local retailer and buy a shiny box with a disc inside. These days you’d be hard pressed to find a store that stocks PC games because of the rise of digital distribution. When internet speeds increased to the point you could download a game in minutes there was no need to leave the house anymore. You can find thousands of games you can buy, download and be playing in no time. It’s a great time to be a PC gamer. There are many platforms for buying video games online but the biggest and most extensive is Steam. It started off a simple platform for updating games but it’s now a complete gaming center. In addition to being a store it also acts as a social network, hub for aspiring game developers and of course a powerful software manager. There’s so much to Steam there’s no way I’ll be able to go into it all in one article. I’ll go through the basics so you can get started gaming with Steam and enjoying all it has to offer.

No matter where you are, you've probably seen friends or coworkers with funny looking watches. That they are constantly checking after walking around the office. They can’t be that interested in what time it is, can they? As many of you know the craze for activity trackers is sweeping the nation. These wrist watch sized devices track how many steps you’ve taken, calories burned, and metrics like your heart rate and how well you slept. One of the most popular, and the one I got through my company, is the Fitbit.

Why do we love the bootable USB drive so much? History, man. There was a time-geologically speaking, a very short time-in which the primary method of installing a new operating system was with an optical disk of some sort. I remember the first time I ever upgraded an operating system was when we upgraded our Windows 3.1 PC to Windows 95. I think we even had MS-DOS on floppy disks, come to think of it. Things are different now. Semiconductor technology has made it possible to cheaply produce, in a smaller package and with higher data fidelity. It’s called electronically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). We just call it flash memory. You stick one of these chips on a printed circuit board with a memory manager and a USB adapter and some software and you’ve suddenly got the world’s most ubiquitous transportable file storage. You may very well have one close at hand.

We’ve all been there before. You sit down at your computer, open up your Internet browser to go to your favorite web page, and nothing happens. All you see is a cryptic error message about unavailable content. You’ve got internet problems.
