Mothers and Daughters: Feminism in Contemporary Literature
The relationship between a mother and daughter can be more complicated than one can assume it to be. From the moment a child enters the world, the first person she makes contact with is her mother. The bond between mother and child then continues to strengthen while experiencing every milestone in both their lives, this evolution also serves as a test of how strong the bond is between them. Taking a closer look into the bond between a mother and her daughter, from a contemporary feminist approach, one might notice that the mother has high standards and expectations behind the choices that her daughter will make. The mother will even take the extra mile to ensure the daughter makes the right choices in her life from adolescence to rising adulthood. The perception of this type of relationship dynamic can be seen in two distinct contemporary literary works. Orange Mint and Honey by Carleen Brice tells the story of a mother and daughter whose differences push them to realize that they are not as different as they think.

Vampires: Literature and Pop Culture . Top Story - March 2021.
Looking into how most supernatural characters are perceived in literature, it strays far from what pop culture has seen as a being who is sickly pale with an unstoppable bloodlust. Although there's a comparison to the common supernatural being in both literature and pop culture, there are various characteristics that would set them apart. The regal interpretation within William Polidori’s The Vampyre and looking into the Salvatore brothers of L.J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries these comparisons of vampires can also be separated by their complete differences based on the author’s perception. Withing William Polidori’s The Vampyre, this short story is described as a man of high society rather than going into the normal depiction of a typical vampire; an individual with pale skin and blood lust but can only appear during nightfall (one that fits the description a Nosferatu vampire). Although this has changed during the times of literature that tells of certain aspects of the horror or supernatural, Polidori gives this being the physicality of a high ranked nobleman in Victorian society "His peculiarities caused him to be invited to every house... though its form and outline were beautiful, many female hunters after notoriety attempted to win his attention." (Polidori)

A Day as Toni Topaz
“Watch out, it’s the Bride of Jack Skellington!” That was one of many taunts that replayed in my mind as soon as got back home from another humiliating day at school. This time, it was more humiliating than the rest. Homecoming was this weekend and I was feeling very nervous because I was building up the courage to ask my crush Jordan Williams, the captain of the basketball team, to be my date. It sounded simple, until I was stopped by Bambi, the high school’s mean girl, and her sidekicks. “You really think Jordan wants to go with a skeleton like you?” Bambi said cackling alongside her friends. “She can find her date at the closest Party City!” One of her clueless sidekicks joked before they all walked away leaving me to hold my tears until I got home.

Album Review: Ari Lennox, 'Shea Butter Baby'
Let’s get one thing straight, Tinder has messed up what we see as dating. We have grown to be a generation of people who would do absolutely anything to seek out attention, for that dating has no compromise. Everything that involves our intimate feelings has to be done on our terms. While the whole dating scene is now twisted, and love seems like nothing more than false hope, R&B/Soul music thrives under those of wounded hearts.
