A True Folk Hero
On 28 February 1982 Nic Jones was involved in a serious road traffic accident. Returning home by car after a gig at Glossop Folk Club, on the road between Peterborough and March in Cambridgeshire, Jones, tired, inadvertently drove into a lorry pulling out of Whittlesea brickworks. He suffered serious injuries, including many broken bones and brain damage, and required intensive care treatment and hospitalization for a total of eight months.

Welcome To Riverworld
Note this , by its very nature , will contain spoilers , Philip Jose Farmer has written some of my favourite books such as “The Wind Whales of Ishmael” and “The Other Log of Phileas Fogg” both nodding to fiction classics which you can guess. I will try and keep it as high level as possible naming characters , concepts in the hope that you may want to visit Riverworld.

Lady of the Water. Top Story - September 2021.
Colleen Millsteed shared a poem called “No More Me” which was subtitled “It’s Game , Set and Match To You” which reminded me of the title of a Nic Jones album. Nic Jones’ masterpiece is “Penguin Eggs” which contains the seafaring lady tale “Canadee-I-O” which has one of the most beautiful guitar intros ever, which got me to thinking about writing a maritime based tribute to my beautiful Muse.

A Santa Rosa Girl
Sometimes you see someone doing wonderful things , sharing stuff , promoting others while sharing her life and continually chatting with you. I have shared an Alex Heffes song featuring Regina Spektor called Ball0on Girl to lead this in, I originally wanted to use the beautiful "Fidelity" (see post verses) but I loved "Balloon Girl" and the video so much you get two.

Not Even A Goodbye
I was not feeling good the other day and wrote this feeling sure I had lost the love of everyone. I long talk with a loving friend showed me how wrong I was but this had been written. I included the Blur song "Tender" cos it is beautiful and does lift your spirits. I hope this doesn't hurt anyone.

Wandering The Imajica
My favourite book is Clive Barker’s “Imajica” . I have read many books that have taken me to other worlds. Michael Moorcock’s Multiverse based Eternal Champion still takes me to unbelievable but familiar places with magic , time travel , demons and swords and supernatural foes. The books seldom transgress 150 pages but they take you all round alternate versions of our own reality.

Colouring The Numbers
This is my first attempt at an ode, which often chooses love or admiration of or for the subject. After meeting a new Vocal friend we talked poetry and the sonnets and villanelles I had written for a number of friends, but I had never tried an ode and said I would try to do one for her.

Up Glastonbury Tor
I have only been up Glastonbury Tor once , I was on holiday in Bath at the time and took a trip to Glastonbury itself. Now this is what I remember at the time and may be flawed and wrong but it was inspired by a conversation with Soleira Green.

A Girl At A Bus Stop
This happened as a teenager in the mid seventies. I was driving home from a night in Garstang and was coming through Broughton and noticed a girl I knew at a bus stop. I stopped the car and got out and ran up to give her a big hug from behind, saying “Hi” . It was ten thirty at night , there were street lights and two pubs , one The Golden Ball close by.
