Just Get Home Safe
In the next 60 minutes 3,625 motorist will be involved in a routine traffic stop in America. In the next 24 hours, nearly 87,000 will be summoned by the blue lights of an officer to pull over and by the end of 2021, an estimated 33 million drivers on the streets of America will encounter law enforcement. The statistics say that 3% of these traffic stops will be misconducted. What does that mean? It means that 108 people today alone, and then again tomorrow, and everyday after, will experience being pulled over with no probable cause, or ticketed without merit, or taken to jail without legitimate reason, or profiled based on looks and/or skin color, or have an illegal substance planted in their car, or illegal seizure of personal assets, or sexually assaulted and raped, or murdered! What are the chances that one day this could be you or your loved ones? God willing, it won’t!!

Sunshine under the Rainbow
Being "gay" was grounds for damnation in the community and church that I grew up in as a little boy. The thought of the word would mentally transport you to a deep dark place of fire and brimstone or gloom and doom with a final resting place in the pits of hell. My parents were never vocal on the issue directly as right, wrong or indifferent, however, I can remember the preacher in the pulpit quoting the scriptures of abomination against God and the kids in the neighborhood being outright hateful towards anyone that was “that way”. By the time I was a teenage boy, I fit well in the category of homophobic and there was nothing you could do to change my views or convince me to want to have anything to do with this “those people”.

Armed with Faith, Hope and Love
He was that handsome 4-year-old that had a smile capable of making a grown man cry. I know, because on numerous occasions when dropping him off, I did cry. As a proud uncle, he was the son that I had always dreamed of having and I spent every waking moment that my sister would allow me to take him to my home 800 miles away from the bed that he loved oh so much. He liked being with his uncle, but he loved being with the characters at Disney even more, so I used the season passes as bait to get him to come visit. Tuesday nights were $.25 cent wing night at the popular Frogger's restaurant, and it was always packed with lots of kids because they offered children entertainment. As outgoing of a boy as he was, he did not do well when initially meeting other kids, but once he got past the bashful barrier, “my best friend” became everyone’s title.
