Bio
A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.

Jaguar Eyes
The mourners at my nephew’s funeral do one of two things as I walk to the front of the gathering to stand with my remaining family; they either stare at me or avoid making eye contact at all. A few whisper quietly amongst themselves, but most of them are too far off for me to hear. The ones I do hear are from a conversation between my niece, Tanya, and her mother, Emma.

The 3-Month Sleep Experiment (2021)
I began this experiment after a few key things this year: dreams while visiting relatives, beginning a new journal, and family drama driving me to concede that I should (finally) look into therapy. I’ve long had sleep issues, as described in “Night Walker”, and I have used cannabis to aid these sleep issues for about 7 years now, as mentioned in “A Dreamless Sleep”. This “experiment” is still being conducted, but I wanted to share my findings after the first month.

Lake Spawn
The lights of the ROV illuminate the bottom of the lake, and both men are shocked when a bright yellow oxygen tank comes into view. It is very clean and free of build-up; it doesn’t appear to have been resting at the lakebed long. Edgar sucks in an unsteady breath.

To Pick South Dakota Sweet Corn
2021 has been a very… interesting year for me. I intend to write a piece at the end of the year, but with October coming to a close in a little over a week, there’s likely not a whole lot left to write by most standards. I hope anyway; there've been some curve balls this year that I’m still dealing with. Here, I would like to talk about a trip I took to South Dakota this year, in July/August. It was the cause of first stress, then some happiness, and then gratitude. Due to my aunt and uncle’s desire for privacy, and also my lack of impulse to take many photos (reaching for my phone isn’t usually my first instinct), I will only refer to my aunt and uncle as such - without name - and there won’t be many personal photos.

Achievement Earned: Fifty Million Gold Earned on One Character Through Auctions!
Shadowsithe Ghoststrike has led an interesting, ongoing adventure in World of Warcraft. First raised under the Banshee Queen in 2009 on the US Role Playing server, Blackwater Raiders, the Forsaken Outlaw (then Combat) Rogue has not only been reanimated within the context of the Forsaken race, but was once even deleted and brought back from the grave of scrapped code. While solo players are not unheard of in the MMORPG, Ghoststrike has taken a long, meandering route from “clueless casual” to a Guild Leader, server giveaway host, raw material farmer and (fairly minor) gold baron. Only, “fairly minor” in this case amounts to some 50 million gold!

Catalyst
I’m so… Angry… Disappointed… Raw.... Numb… Absolutely burnt out and, yet, also seemingly so ready to reignite... 2021 has been an interesting year - one I intend to go over in full at a later date, at the end of the year. It was already a rough year emotionally…

Happy Howl-oween!
Coming in at 31 songs and just under 2 hours long, here is the playlist I created for the “Graveyard Smash” 2021 challenge on Vocal.media! It’s not just a playlist made for boo-geying, however, as a good Halloween playlist - to me - should always include at least one track that tells a story! I am also a huge fan of remixes and alternative versions and am versed in multiple versions of many songs, so while the titles may look familiar, be advised most versions here are not the most well-known or popular.

Context
I always knew I was fucked up, but I didn’t think about it all laid out. I thought I had this shit on the right path; I was going to sort through it all eventually on my own. I should have known better than to make such careless plans. I never learn, do I? It’s never been that simple.

From the "Old Barn" to the "Pear Tree"
I recall checking the Challenges section of Vocal.media one day with raised eyebrows; a multitude of new challenges were listed. “Summer Fiction Series” - 8 challenges in as many weeks. Top prize in each was $5,000.

Night Walker
I’d say it started in my preteens. I know how it came to be; in order to try to watch early morning cartoon and anime episodes, I would set an alarm. In the beginning, I’d set it half an hour to an hour out from the episode. This was to allow myself a few minutes each to coax myself from beneath the warm covers, use the restroom, sneak downstairs, and get settled.

I love my job because…. Actually - honestly - it is really difficult to love anything about my job. The person I work for hardly speaks to me, so I am constantly left guessing what he needs or wants and there’s never any recognition of a job well done. If I get a promotion, it’s only after my father either hands over his responsibilities because he can no longer continue or after his death. Can’t say I look forward to the circumstances of that promotion. There’s no benefits or overtime for this 24/7/365 job. Actually, there’s not even any real extra workers. And folks love to complain about having to kiss a customer or boss’s ass? How about wiping it? Yep - part of my job. Welcome to the unglamorous world of caregiving!
