Megan Baker (Left Vocal in 2023)
Bio
A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.

Ready
I am afraid to check my email. I admitted to my partner days ago that I was having cold feet about reaching out for therapy; the thing I just spent the last 3 months recording dreams and highs/lows and have been writing many personal pieces in preparation for.

Baker's Dozen: Comfort Shows in 2021. Top Story - January 2022.
Before I get to work on my 2022 Baker's Dozen lists, I have one more for my 2021! Since my previous list went over my comfort movies in 2021, it only seems fair that I also give attention to my comfort shows of 2021.

The 3-Month Sleep Experiment (2021)
This is the 3rd and final part of my 3-month "experiment", during which I have stopped using recreational cannabis in order to have dreams that I have recorded, largely for upcoming therapy. The idea was to see if the dreams are as dark and stressful as they were before I began using recreational cannabis about 7 years ago and found that using it allowed me dreamless sleep; sweet oblivion.

20 Entries for the Vocal+ Fiction Awards (2021)
Below are my 20 entries for the Vocal+ Fiction Awards challenge (2021)! Included are the links, playlists (if applicable), and brief summaries for each. Many were initially created for other Vocal.media challenges prior to the announcement of this challenge, but they were equally qualified for it! I wanted one cohesive list for all 20 pieces!

Marbles
Betty scowls at the old fluorescent bulbs overhead as they take their sweet time to warm up and illuminate the cold garage. George had never gotten around to replacing the three bulbs that had burnt out, so even once the remaining five finally shed their full light, she struggles to find her way around. She’s had little reason to come into the garage the last several years, as it was George’s favorite place to be alone as he worked on various projects.

Year 2508
This can be read as a follow-up to “Year 2507” or as a stand-alone piece. Neuro stares at the orange pill in her hand. She’s done well to ration out the tranquilizers in the bunker, but every time she thinks to take one, she hesitates. Eventually, she will run out of them. At the same time, if she has gotten to the point that she thinks she needs one…

Baker's Dozen: Comfort Movies 2021
I hope I'm not wearing out my welcome with all these "Baker's Dozen" lists this month, but the more I think about the things I've enjoyed this year, the more I decide, "yeah, that sounds like a fun one!" Since I've already covered my 2021 Spotify Wrapped list, my favorite podcasts and YouTube channels in 2021, and even covered my top 13 cannabis strains, I guess it should come as no surprise that I'd think to make a Baker's Dozen of my top 13 comfort movies in 2021.

One Step at a Time
10,000 steps a day; it’s been my goal for over five years using Garmin. But long before that, I was already making huge numbers of steps in a day - they just weren’t recorded. I would wake up in the middle of the night to pace growing up, as it was the only time I really had to myself. I wrote all about that here. I never grew out of it, though now I am able to freely walk about the house at any hour.

Anticipation
I’ll do it, but I can’t deny that I am second-guessing, well... everything. It’s one thing to consider to myself that I have more issues than I’ve led myself to believe for years on end; I have dismissed signs, minimized dark thoughts, told myself “it’s just a bad day”. Except… So many days are bad, back-to-back-to-back.

Baker's Dozen: Cannabis Strains I Loved in 2021. Top Story - December 2021.
I've written about some heavy things this year. About family drama and past trauma. But I have also enjoyed creating a few "Baker's Dozen" lists lately that have been a dose of fun to combat those heavier, serious themes! From songs off my Spotify Wrapped list, to podcasts, to YouTube channels, I've been enjoying spending my time on some more carefree posts for the end of the year! Naturally, I wanted to create one for cannabis strains I've enjoyed in 2021!
