Review | DA 5 BLOODS: Violent, Shakespearean, and Powerful as Hell
Following a group of four black American Vietnam-war veterans, we tread with careful steps through ghostly memories and volatile grounds as the men return to a field they never truly left. With a masterful cast, immersive cinematography, a Hollywood classic soundtrack, and charmingly frank directing, it’s safe to say that Spike Lee has done it again.

Embracing Radical Empathy in an Age of Antipathy. First Place in Lifelong Learning Challenge. Top Story - June 2020.
When I take a look around me today, one thing has become abundantly clear: We are living through an age of antipathy. Whether it's lockdown protestors that would have the ‘old and weak’ sacrificed for the right to get a haircut, the people yelling ‘All Lives Matter’ - not as a statement of solidarity or support but rather as a rebuttal to demean and dismiss the Black Lives Movement, or the parent that refuses to vaccinate their kids and thus endangers the rest of the kids amongst them for otherwise cured diseases, a vulgar pattern of exceptional egocentrism appears.

Pride 2020:Three LGBTQ+ TV-Series You Have To Watch Right Now. Top Story - June 2020.
It’s Pride Month! Yup, there’s a lot going on in the world right now so I wouldn’t blame you if it flew over your head. With the protests happening across the globe, it’s a good time to remind us all that Pride began as a riot against police brutality on the LGBTQ+ community, and it was lead by queer black women. So, no. Pride is not cancelled. More than ever, this is a time we should spend echoing and amplifying what our LGBTQ+ ancestors were fighting for at Stonewall in 1969.

The Two Season Death Sentence: Only 15% of Netflix Originals Have Been Renewed for a Season 3. Top Story - May 2020.
It is safe to say that in the past decade, Netflix has created an online entertainment empire. With over 3000 movie titles available in most regions (and new ones being added every day), as well as around 700 Netflix Original series (so not even including the ones they licence from other networks), there is certainly no slowing down for the streaming giant.

Normal People: A Timeless and Tender Portrayal of Young Love - But Does it Live Up to the Hype?. Top Story - May 2020.
Based on the best-selling novel by Irish author Sally Rooney, BBC Three’s adaptation of Normal People is a near word for word parallel as it tells the raw and realistic story of Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal). An infatuation started as teens through secret kisses (and that which follows) that would continue to be revived and deepen as their lives persist on crossing paths throughout the years.

Why "The Innocence Files" is the Most Important Thing You Could Be Watching Right Now
According to the Innocence Project, a nonprofit legal organization that has fought to exonerate innocent men and women incarcerated in the U.S. since 1992, between 2.4% and 5% of all U.S. prisoners are estimated to be innocent. Considering that as of 2019, roughly 2.12 million people in the states are behind bars, this could potentially mean that just over 100.000 people are currently serving time for crimes they did not commit. Additionally, that is 100.000 people guilty of those crimes running free.

The Power of Silence in Cinema
When we watch movies and television, commenting on and admiring the cinematography, acting, styling, and score is pretty customary. After all, cinema is mostly defined and looked upon as a story told through a series of moving images. But there is one defining factor that, if done well, usually goes unnoticed, but if done poorly will immediately take you out of an otherwise immersive experience - and that is sound editing.

Outrageously Innovative and Controversial: Is this genius or ridiculous? | Vivarium (2019) Review
Have you ever feared that making one decision might change your life forever? That one answer to a question, yes or no, would go on to be the defining factor of how your future plays out? That you will be locked down and stuck, regardless of how much you try to break out of the cycle?

Another Netflix UnOriginal: I Am Not Okay With This
After extensive peer-pressure from Netflix’ advertisement and social media, I finally gave into watching their new coming-of-age series (with a dash of sci-fi) I Am Not Okay With This. From producers of Stranger Things and the director of The End of the Fucking World, this is exactly the kind of cocktail you would expect - except for any type of distinctive personality and style that made those series so memorable, that is.
