The Watermelon in the Pool
Summer, I’ve realized, has a lot of ‘iconic’ foods. At least for me. Whether it’s steak on the grill with asparagus and pasta salad, eating outside with the family with music in the background and the insects buzzing, humidity ripe in the air and sticky. Or homemade pizza with everyone laughing in the kitchen, flour everywhere and toppings, oftentimes serving as snacks, conversations flowing easily except for the few arguments about if ‘pineapples really belong on pizza’. Or even hamburgers and turkey burgers at a friend’s house, fingers wrinkled from the pool with bees and wasps buzzing nearby and a dog watching you closely telepathically telling you to drop just one bite more.

The Lost City
"I think we're going in circles," Bev stated, for the fifth time today. It didn't need to be stated; Alliah already knew they were going in circles. All she could think of were circles. They were surrounded by circles. The world was made of circles. Even her thoughts kept circling in her head. Circles. Circles. Circles. It never stopped. She thought she was going mad, she knew the rest of the crew did too. The darkness didn't help any, no sign of stars in the sky. They moved sluggishly, as if something was dragging them backward, under, she couldn't even tell which anymore.

One Wish
She came on the first day of June. That was the first time. I remember it was hot outside, some of the attendants were complaining. I couldn't feel it though. Murder is as Murder Does
"You… you poisoned her?" Narah whispered in the darkened alley. She could hardly believe it, believe it had worked. Every other plan failed and spectacularly too. All but this one, she hadn't even hired a real assassin! Just a down on his luck teenager she had found by the docks and blackmailed into helping her. What a joke! She couldn't have gotten a better present and at a perfect time too.

The Possible Haunting of Old Man Norton
Old Man Norton fell and broke his leg. It would've been a tragedy if it hadn't been the third time this week. Her business was to clean the very old house, which she was sure, had started rotting in the basement.

Before they were roommates, they were close friends, and before that, they were partners, assigned together despite all odds. Beasts Exist Inside the Eyes of Man
Cantor woke up with the king of all headaches pounding away at her skull and a hard, rough surface under her. The stench of rotten meat hit her nose as she turned her head to the side with a groan. God, everything fucking hurt. Her stomach was turning from the stench as she gagged and tried to clear it from her airways.
