The Tale of Amber's Cove

Mermaid, seashell, claws

Her soles left light impressions in the damp, pale sand. She's well-named - Amber. It's a word that rolls in honey and drips glutinous sunshine. Does it put you in mind of golden skin and wavy hair?

I am in love with the way you write 🥹❤️ So poetic, but there's also a lightness to it mixed with fabulous imagery. This story was so engaging! I love mermaids; even the evil ones! 🤗❤️ Amazing job!

Sorry to read you're not feeling so good. Hope you manage to get some rest and feel better soon. This was awesome. Your descriptions made it so alluring and intriguing, especially when you were describing the mermaids, and the way Amber reacted. So many wonderful little bits and that deadly twist! Seriously very good stuff! Well done, LC! Also, as a sidenote, I remember that story by Dharrsh and this feels like a good follow-up to it! :)

  • Omgggg, thank you so much for the shout out! I'm so happy you went with this story! It seemed so sinister right from the beginning but the climax, whoaaa, you nailed it. I loved the crunch! Also, I liked how you called the waves as a polite, wet butler, lol! I loved your story so much!

LC, I was sold on this story as soon as I read your word choices! I simply love your descriptive langue in this story, its so effortless and poetic! My favourite line was “It's a word that rolls in honey and drips glutinous sunshine.” When describing Amber, it felt so sultry and rich in texture! I had goosebumps when the seashell spoke to Amber, I felt like air of the story turn from beautiful and whimsical to eery and tense, at the drop of a hat. I love the way you described how the water interacted with Ambers body, it felt naughty in a good way! Beautiful imagery and play on the readers senses! I like that your version of mermaid as they are represented to be playful, curious and almost naive about the likes of humans. But then they showed their true intentions and colours as I expected! Overall this was such an engaging, intense and thrilling read! Well done!

  • Thank you to all for your kind comments. I'm touched that you are all so encouraging. I didn't expect this one to land well, because I'm a bit poorly at the moment. So this was written while feeling quite sorry for myself in between napping and sipping chicken noodle soup 🤧

Woah! At first I was like…how majestic. Then I was really uneasy - then BAM! That’s a nice lure they have with the shell. Very effective horror story!
