Trying to Stay Strong
A while back, I was feeling low and I wasn’t seeing my therapist, not taking care of myself. While I was feeling down, not wanting to talk to anyone I started to write some sentences that started to make me feel better. Keep in mind I was in a really dark place, I got the help that I needed. I started seeing my therapist again, just know that mental health is a rollercoaster. It is a process, we have our ups and our downs but as long as you’re willing to get the help that is all that matters. Here are a few things I wrote.

My Curls
I have been trying to transition into leaving my hair natural; this means not putting any heat on my hair whatsoever. I have failed a couple of times and straightened my hair, gave into the idea that having straight hair is better because it’s easier to manage. There are many times that I wished I had straight hair; I straightened my hair every day my entire freshman and sophomore year in high school. Do I regret it? HELL YEAH!

Life at the Theatre
I don’t know if this is a surprise to anyone, but people are constantly throwing up at the theatre. If we go a day with someone not throwing up, it is a miracle. Luckily, we are not the ones to clean that mess up. Even if we had to, I could not do it—weak stomach. There are thousands of stories I could tell you, like that one time some lady decided she wasn’t going to wait to in line to use the restroom, so she did all her business in the lobby… gross, I know.

What Working at a Theatre Is Really Like
I've been working at a theatre for about three years now, supporting myself through college. It's easy, flexible hours, and I get to watch some great shows. No, I do not work at a movie theatre. I get to watch shows like Dear Evan Hansen, Kinky Boots, etc... Everything about the job is easy but the most difficult part of the job is dealing with the patrons. I don’t know what it is about the theatre and the people who go to them, but it’s not fun.

Coming Out
Growing up with a very religious family, I was taught things that I absolutely don’t believe now. I hated every minute of my life being at church. I didn’t really understand why because I had some decent friends there. Since I was little I remember crying, begging my parents to leave me home because I didn’t want to be at church. They never listened to me.

Love the Right Way
We’ve all fallen for someone who isn’t right for us. It doesn’t mean that they’re horrible human beings or that they’re doing it on purpose, but it doesn’t stop it from hurting as much as it does. The question is, how do you know you’ve fallen for the wrong person? They don’t love you back! That’s how. Just because you love someone doesn’t mean that they must love you back. Because they don’t feel the same way doesn’t mean you should hate them, things don’t work out sometimes and that’s OKAY! However, there are different ways to know when they don’t love you. You shouldn’t be wasting your time on people who don’t love you the way you want or need to be loved. Here are some ways to know when someone might now feel the same way, some red flags:

Dating Your Best Friend
I still care about you. Six years ago, I fell in love with my best friend. We dated for a while and it was great, no complaints. I lost my virginity to him, but that's a whole other story though. We were the kind of couple that got attention because we were "so cute." At least that's what we were told so many times—gross, I know. Every day was an adventure, maybe the reason it felt so right in the beginning. Some things just don't work out, you know? This was for the best. I didn't see that then, but I do now.
