Behind The Lens 🟪📸🟪
Location I was absolutely delighted to escape my quarantine hotel one Wednesday In Sri Lanka, having being invited on Safari to Yala National Park. This was my first time seeing these majestic mammals in the wild and it was a truly magical experience. We had a 2.5 hour car journey to get to the park, where we transferred into a massive open jeep that could comfortably accommodate x6. There was only myself, the guide and the kind Colombian who had invited me as his guest. Absolutely perfect for allowing me to climb around in search of good angles for photographs. Shoes off, crouching, kneeling, hanging out the sides...the roof... you name it I was doing it!

Dear Betty
I have started this letter three times over in attempt to find some clever way to say what I am feeling. The challenge is to write a letter to the strongest woman I know. Of course you came first to mind. How could you not? I tried writing this in form of a poem. It didn't work. I tried using fancy language like I would in an essay. It didn't work. And so. This time I just want to pour our words from my heart to yours.

Why Space Travel is $190,000 Cheaper from Sri Lanka
So. I'm in Sri Lanka having coffee with my newest acquaintance (and now good friend) Tsoroshan. We are a little hungover (these were the days when I still drank alcohol) and dealing with it in very different ways. I am tucking into a massive plate of traditional dhal curry, coconut sambal and paratha bread with a fresh mango smoothie as he sips delicately on his black coffee and sparks another cigarette.

Little Black Notebooks
Vince lay on the roof outside his window gazing into the clear night's sky. Despite the light pollution of Edinburgh city, it was still possible to see the hundreds of stars that glittered above his head. He closed his eyes and invited Lena to join him, feeling the soft caress of her hair as she cuddled into his chest. The warmth of her skin and how perfectly the curvature of her body fit against his was so deeply imprinted on him that it almost felt real. Lena's essence was still very much alive inside Vince's heart. Her love had been so vibrant, so powerful, that even two years after the accident he still found it easy to imagine her next to him.

The Origin of Bitcoin
It was 5am on a crisp November day in a small village outside Shizuoka, Japan. Prince Saionji Kinmochi slowly awoke from an unsettled sleep. His body felt heavier than usual, his bones weaker and his mind somewhat clouded. Over the past month he had been dreaming of his impending death. Deep within himself he knew this was a premonition. Although he had no fear of death, still he was filled with a sense of grief and loss. He knew that he would never again see a spring of pink cherry blossoms or feel the warmth of the summer sun upon his skin. This thought evoked a deep sadness that threatened to flood his heart as well as his eyes.

This Is Us
This is Us follows the lives of the fictional Pearson family. A love story centred around main characters Jack & Rebecca, who soon fall pregnant with triplets. When I first put this on I had run out of programs to watch and my hopes were not high from the synopsis. Within 20 minutes I was hooked. Hooked in that unhealthy way, where you find yourself not wanting to leave your new-found television friends and being so emotionally involved in the storyline. You need water, you need lunch, dinner, the toilet; but you just can’t find a way to pause the television. Amazon Prime also have a sneaky way of starting the next episode so swiftly that you don’t really have a chance to say no. One episode merges into the next and in the blink of an eye your day is over!

The Art of Healing ❤️
A New Year always brings in fresh motivation and energy. We often see the change in calendar as an opportunity to set new goals for ourselves (or reinstate long forgotten plans from years past..before work, kids, and a worldwide pandemic set in). We tell ourselves that this will be the year. The year we see 365 sunrises and sunsets. The year we achieve our fittest ever beach body and glossy magazine cover skin. We throw away all the sugar from the cupboards, determined we no longer need it in our lives. Gym equipment is purchased and gym memberships soar (prior to COVID-19 January is the busiest month for any gym). We make ourselves endless promises that we hope not to break. Sometimes we convince ourselves that we will succeed, other times that little voice inside our head tells us it's only a matter of time before we go back to our 'old ways'. Some of us have very encouraging friends, some of us have the 'friends' that resent us trying to better ourselves (you know the ones, those who fear that if you give up your shared vice, they will have to also face their overindulgences). Some of us are completely alone, scared to better ourselves because it may harm the few connections that we do have. I know I smoked for 12 years longer than I should have for this very reason.
