Goldfish Rock
She has been sitting in that same corner for a few years, but not as long as I have been in my corner of the room. She was a carnival goldfish and the only survivor of the six that my younger brother and I brought home. She was my younger brother’s fish and she soon became his pride and joy. My brother named his fish Jason after the hero from Greek mythology. We found out later that the fish was female when she laid eggs, but never changed her name.

The Cronoticals
I only got drunk once. I was at a bar with my crowd from high school who I hadn’t seen in forever. I guess I wasn’t paying attention to how many refills I got of vodka lemonade. I don’t remember much of it, which is part of my problem. When I talked to my friends afterward, they said they had watched me leave to walk home to my apartment. No one went with me. No one checked to see if I was drunk. The next thing I knew, I woke up on a train headed for Trenton and looked down to see my forearms were newly tattooed. I screamed and promptly threw up.

Fantasy Hike
A number of days ago, my sisters and I went on a hike on a nearby trail close to our house. It was a trek to get to the trail itself, but it was worth the extra walk. Once you step onto the trail, the forest feels as if it is luring you farther in. The feeling is similar to the way the ocean draws you in when you stand at the edge, the waves lapping at your ankles.

Dream Big, Fly High
Dreams are not usually things that come true. Before November of 2019, I did not think I was ever going to afford to take a flight lesson. Since I was little I always wanted to fly and I had always been fascinated by air craft. Flying a plain for real, seemed like something out of the realm of reasonable possibility for me. I became determined in sophomore year of high school to find a way to make my crazy dream come true.

Crisis 2.0
Don’t tell me how long it’s been. I know all too well when it happened, because my third child was born in the middle of a forest no more than a week after. He is 13 now, and we are still on the run. Everything I once knew has been destroyed. There is a new world now controlled by crooked men who thought it best for everyone to be forcibly directed. It was certainly a small price for them to pay to create what they are convinced is a utopia.
