The Pros and Cons of Falling for London
London was nothing like I expected. Even though the vibes screamed, “city,” it didn’t feel like one. Surrounded by modern buildings, it didn’t give me the same feeling as New York or even Boston—like the city yearned to swallow me whole. No matter where I looked, I could spot St. Paul’s Cathedral. That knowledge provided some comfort. Especially because right next to St. Paul’s was one particularly important place—Covent Garden, the place I could buy all the tea and sweets I wanted. It was also where the Burberry store was located.

Happy hour started during the quiz making the drinks two for one. The smart thing would have been to split the price of drinks. However, still drunk, quite literally, from the newfound freedom of being able to “legally” drink we decided to splurge and get two each.

I stirred the sauce, pouring a little more wine into it then took the cake out of the freezer. After taking a sip, straight from the bottle in my hands, I thought about how it was a little miracle that I was here—cooking dinner to celebrate my first anniversary with my husband. The wine took me back to that night. When I first met him, it was the worst date of my life.
