The sweltering heat was relentless. She was meaner than his third-grade teacher, with a ruler waiting to whack his knuckles for misbehaving. Jace gave up on the idea of sleeping and tossed the thin sheet aside. The window unit crashed and burned before he managed to fall asleep last night. He still was forced to get out of bed, take the blasted unit off of the window, and put the screens back in.

Let the Decorating Begin
The boxes are tucked away underneath the stairs, where they reside throughout the year. Forgotten. The calendar pages turned, one by one, but the decorations remained hidden from sight, waiting their turn. The seasons arrived at their appointed times, as the dark winter days turned warmer with each passing week. Turn the clocks ahead and enjoy the extra hour of daylight. Days turn to weeks, bringing sweltering heat and long walks on the hot beach sand.

The Glimmergate Inn
I could smell the most amazing aromas as I walked down the sidewalk toward the front door to the Glimmergate Inn. As my stomach rumbled in anticipation of a turkey feast, I noticed the dilapidated shutters and the wilting flowers. The inn had an air about it that sent shivers down my spine.
