Planning your Story VS Winging It
Creating a fictional setting is quite a rigorous task if you want to do it right. Is the story you’re writing set on modern day Earth, or a world of your own creation? What are each of the characters doing, and why are they doing it? What about the events which happen? Do they have realistic consequences going forward? And were those events sufficiently foreshadowed so that your readers feel like they were an organic part of the plot, and not just the hand of the author producing it out of nowhere?

London in Roman Times
One of the many lessons you can gleam from the study of history is that everything starts out small. Rome became an empire which reshaped the Mediterranean but, for centuries, it was a backwater city with no real importance. As the saying goes, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ and neither, for that matter, was London. Today, London is one of the most prominent and well known cities in the world. It’s an economic and cultural centre, which sees, on average, 30 million visitors each year.

Myths About Bullying
Bullying is, regrettably, a reality that many people of all ages still have to deal with. It’s not something that everyone grows out of. But school is a time of our lives where we’re likely to have to deal at least some bullies. It’s a deeply complex issue with a wide variety of different factors, so I’m assuming you won’t have started to read this with any expectation that I will be ‘solving’ bullying over the course of this short blog post. I certainly hope not, as I don’t like my odds of solving an issue that’s been ongoing about as long as humans have been socializing. Reducing the presence and impact of bullying is a challenge which needs to be dealt with gradually over generations.

The Value of Outdoor Lessons
There is, to be sure, a lot to be said for being inside. In terms of examples of human innovation, things like fire, the wheel, or flight are the most commonly referenced. But the concept of building a structure which shelters us from the elements is such a fundamental concept of our lives that we don’t even think about it. But that doesn’t mean that we can, or should, stay inside all the time. There’s plenty of stuff that you need to go outside to do, and it’s just nice to get some fresh air and experience a bit of nature.

Anxiety in School
There's something about the word 'anxiety' that seems to underplay just how bad the emotion behind it can get. If you hear someone describe themselves as 'anxious' it tends to call to mind something akin to mild nervousness. Something far less severe than what words like 'fear' and 'terror' will conjure.

Benefits of Mindfulness
Something about the internet that we’ve simply become used to, is how quickly new trends pop up. Information can now spread around the world at a rate which would have been impossible just one generation ago. What this means for trends is that all they need to do, in order to spread like wildfire, is to catch people’s imagination.

The Challenges of Parenting
Being a parent is a responsibility that can sometimes be romanticized in popular media. Depending on the goal of the writer, it’s not uncommon for parenthood to be depicted as endlessly fulfilling; something that always completes a person. And, to be sure, it can certainly be very fulfilling (depending on the person, of course). However, what these rose-tinted depictions often gloss over is all the hard work being a parent entails.
