Black Music Month Celebrates: Louis Jordan
Most young people today may never understand the concept of a jukebox. Furthermore, they’d never understand that the king of the jukebox was Louis Jordan. As the precursor to what would become Rock and Roll, Saxophone Blues King, Louis Jordan is not only a pioneer of Black music, but American music as a whole.

Thank You Vocal
The year 2024 marks my third year as a member of Vocal.com. It’s funny how I actually found this platform by chance. A loved one mentioned to me and others in mixed conversation how they were interesting in possibly writing children stories online for a chance to possibly make some money in doing so. With writing being my passion that I was seeking to pursue I thought to myself “maybe I should give that a try and look for such a site. It might be a good stepping stone where I can stretch my legs as a writer. I am proud to say that it is certainly one of the best choices that I have ever made.

Forgiving Yourself
Forgiveness. If you ever had to think of something random and complex enough to get someone’s attention verbally, well that’s probably the proper word. Forgiveness has to be like one of the top five most difficult words to digest in mankind’s history. Not being dramatic, just speaking the truth. One of the hardest lessons we have to learn is forgiving others. Perhaps an even harder lesson is learning to forgive ourselves.

Black Music Month Celebrates: Rosetta Tharpe
If anyone were to ever ask you who is the matriarch of Rock & Roll, the mother that gave birth to music as we know it to this day, you would tell them Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Most young people today aren’t familiar with that name and more importantly, they are unfamiliar with the fact she is the reason why the world of music exist today such as we know it.

Street Hop
Andre is standing on the corner leaning against the brick building that is his apartment complex when a man dressed in raggedy clothing approaches him. “What you got for me, youngblood?” the man asked. “I got that good for you right here” Andre replied while reaching into the right pocket of his flight jacket. Out of it he pulled a tiny ziplock bag with a white powdery substance, it was heroin. The rugged man gave André a 20 dollar bill and André gave him the small bag of heroin. “Preciate that, youngblood” the man said as he walked away. As André stood waiting for another customer, three young men with black jackets similar to André’s started approaching him from across the street.

Free Yourself
There is no ill feeling quite like bitterness. We have all been there before. Someone wronged us, did us dirty, left us hanging, or betrayed us. The pain often stays with us for awhile, reverberating throughout our daily lives and follows us into the future. When our pain over the actions of another has stayed with us this much we’ve found our way into a web of bitterness. Often times that bitterness makes us want to seek vengeance, but we need to talk about why holding on to bitterness and a list for vengeance is fruitless and a waste of time.
