Jennifer Rose
Bio
Ever since I was little, I wanted to write. As a little kid my mom would tell me things like "You were writing since you were in the womb. You had a little pen and paper in there, and would write things like "It's so comfy in here and all!"

A Thanksgiving Like No Other
My family was also quite impacted by the lockdown. Dad pushed for an in-person Thanksgiving like you wouldn’t believe, with my grandma, aunt, uncle, and cousin (who brought along his own girlfriend as well.) Needless to say, it didn’t come to pass. My uncle was diagnosed with epilepsy earlier this year, and got too sick to travel- if that wasn’t enough, Bill de Blasio put a hold on any and all travel going to New York, so we couldn’t travel to visit them anyway. And, just to twist the knife even further, my grandma’s residence prohibited any and all visitors.

Why I've Always Wanted to be a Writer
Ever since I was little, I've always wanted a career as a writer. I think it's really fun for me to craft my own stories and worlds. At the age of ten, where I did my own school newspaper called The Backpack News. It wasn't a work of art, but it also wasn't bad for a ten-year-old, either. It had short stories that I wrote myself, a few current events, like birthdays and homework, and reviews for TV episodes (particularly of The Simpsons), movies (Bridge to Terabithia), and restaurants (Fuddruckers). I would later go on to working for my school newspapers and literary magazine in middle school (movie reviews and quizzes, respectively) and for part of high school as well.

Remember that bizarre story you wrote at 15? Well, this guy on Twitter does
When I was about 15, I wasn't too sure of myself. While I was leaps and bounds above where I was two years ago, I nevertheless had a tough time at school. In particular, I was the target of a "popular" girl, who seemed to like everyone but me. I could just say "hi," and she's be all like "Get away, loser!" The other girls weren't much better, not only did they defend her, they almost encouraged her. In particular, they gave her the attention she very much craved.

Ronald Mallett: A Man (Literally) Wise Before His Time
Ever since he was a little boy, Ronald Mallett was, like many people, intrigued by the idea of time travel. However, unlike most scientists and philosophers, who dismiss the idea as pure fantasy- even astrophysicist Stephen Hawking scoffed at any possibility that it could become a reality after having a party for time travellers where nobody came- he has believed wholeheartedly that such an idea could become a real-life possibility someday, if not today.

Stephen Merchant: An Outlaw After My Own Heart
So, there's been a ton of talk of Stephen Merchant's series "The Outlaws." Co-created with Christopher Walken (who recently became a fan of Stephen's after working with him on set) it's basically about surprisingly normal "criminals" completing community service. Once you hear "I Fought the Law (and the Law One)" in the trailer, you know you'll be in for a crazy ride. I knew I was!

How One of the Most Iconic Rock Musicians Connected to a Young Autistic Woman in the 21st Century
I remember 10 years ago when people were commermorating what would’ve been his 70th birthday, complete with a little Google Doodle where the “70” blended into his self-portrait doodle. While it took me a while, I eventually saw what the big fuss was all about. After all, my mother had exposed me to the Beatles’ music as a child, if mainly through “Kids’ Versions” of the Beatles.

Random Acts of Kindness
My mother, god bless her, always taught me to do nice things for others whenever I can- that’s why I give homeless people “Kind” bars and donate to “Donation Boxes” at various places. Unfortunately, some ideas, like giving Grandma’s computer a “Makeover,” sound better in theory than in actuality. However, last Friday (Friday the 13th, no less!) I did something beautiful for another autism mom that she will never, ever forget.

How I Screwed Up My Trip To New York (Spoiler: Not Really Though)
For my end-of-the-year senior trip, my professor decided to take us to New York City. She even had us elect “when” the trip was being held, and we all decided on Cinco De Mayo weekend- it was towards the end of the year and we could all relax afterward, finals notwithstanding. A lot of students were stressed, including one young lady who actually wanted Spring Break to last longer just so she had more time to catch up on her work! I was looking forward dearly to this trip, as was everyone else. I mean, I always enjoy a fun trip into the city, but now, I was a lot less stressed and figured that nothing could “possibly” go wrong, right?

A Funny Thing Happened on The college Campus
So, it was only natural that Woody Allen, actor, screenwriter, musician, published actor (thanks to Dad, but that’s another story) and certified genius, decided to create a film there, with big stars like Timothee Chalamant, Elle Fanning, and even Selena Gomez. Yes, that Selena Gomez- she’s come an awful long way since the Disney Channel! Some students even got her autograph. (Keep in mind that Elle was younger than most students on campus here.)

Lights! Camera! Me!
Or so I thought. In March 2017, the “Film24” company came to Drew. Since Drew itself is no stranger to Tinseltown- films like The Family Stone & even The Incredible Hulk were filmed here- they decided to hold a “boot camp” here. Despite my ridiculous lack of organization, I decided to participate. After all, I had promised my insecure, eleven-year-old self I was going to be a big star someday, and by God I was going to keep that promise to her.

Am I really hitting Rock Bottom? Check yourself before you say “yes”
Oh, Mom’s birthday earlier this week was fine. Better than fine, really- while Mom is still upset about my sister’s disability, I still had a great day. We went out to a fancy-shmancy restaurant, and while my sister acted up, they reacted beautifully and saw it as nothing. I had offered to read to my sister, and gave my mother a Bob Marley cover album for her special day, which was done by one of those dinky cover bands that play by the pool, but hey, it’s the thought that counts. Speaking of which, I had also offered to read to my sister “VeggieTales” but accidentally left the book at home. Oh well, I’ll just bring it next time!
