Footwear Quality Control order 2024, BIS certification for footwear is mandatory for manufacturers
The Quality Control Order (QCO), which comes into effect from August 1, 2024, requires manufacturers of shoes, sandals and slippers sold in the Indian market to comply with the new quality guidelines of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The purpose of this new regulation is to improve the quality and safety of footwear products available in the Indian market. According to a DPIIT notification, BIS certification for footwear is mandatory for domestic and foreign manufacturers of Personal Protective Equipment footwear and footwear made of leather, rubber, polymeric materials, or other materials must comply with applicable Indian standards and display the standard mark (ISI mark) approved by the BIS department.
