Step by step procedure to apply BIS registration for toys:

1. Pre-testing of the toys from a third-party laboratory approved by BIS
2. Submission of the application along with requisite documents
3. Payment of the government fee
4. Scrutiny of the application
5. Factory inspection will be conducted by the BIS officer
6. Dispatch the samples sealed by the BIS officer during factory inspection to the concerned BIS Laboratory.

Important points related to toy BIS certification:

• Installation of the in-house testing lab is exempted for micro units having a turnover of less than 5 crore for 12 months for assembling units and 36 months for manufacturing units from the date of grant of the BIS on toys.
• Importers of the toys’ parts and assembling in India can also apply for BIS License for toys. Assembling units engaged in Contract Manufacturing using third-party machinery can also apply for BIS registration for toys based on the Job work agreement
• Manufacturers of both electric and non-electric toys, have to apply for 2 BIS License, separate for electric toys and separate for non-electric toys.
