My Manager Didn’t Respect My Time Because I’m Childfree
“You don’t have children, so staying late shouldn’t be a problem for you.” I stared at the phone in disbelief. When my coworker hadn’t shown up for her shift, I expected my manager to at least ask if I’d be willing to stay late or come up with a solution. Instead, the all-female office crew began packing up and heading out as if there wasn’t an issue, which is why I’d called my manager in the first place. To be fair, some of them may not have known since I worked downstairs in reception, and they worked upstairs.

I’m Not a Taylor Swift Fan, but I Found ‘All Too Well’ Relatable
I’ve never been a fan of Taylor Swift. In fact, I usually cringe whenever her voice graces my ears (especially in retail settings). Lately, her fans have been all over my for you page on TikTok. Most of the videos are about her failed relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal and her song and video for All Too Well. Watching her fans dissect the song and short film, I felt like I was watching an ARG unfold before me. Some fans even dubbed it the Taylor Swift extended universe.

When Did Gamer Become An Insult?
One of the first video games I remember playing was the original Super Mario Bros. I never got further than the first few levels, but I still enjoyed the hours I spent trying to rescue the princess (who was always in another castle). I loved everything about the game, from the soundtrack to the simple story, but eventually, I expanded my game collection.

Hurricane Ida’s Aftermath
On August 29th, 2021, the wind whistled as the storm rattled my windows. It was a terrifying sound; one I hope never to hear again. The rain came down in thick sheets, pounding on the roof and walls that surrounded me. The power had gone out earlier that day, so the only thing that lit the room was a small camping light I’d purchased the day before. I felt terrified, so I held my dog close to ensure her safety. Somehow, my dog and I got some sleep during the night.

I’m Terrified Of Hurricane Ida
When I was younger, I didn’t realize how serious hurricanes were. I used to look forward to the school closing, and I loved the sound of rain beating against the roof and the walls of my house. I’d usually spend those days watching cartoons, playing video games, or reading. Sometimes we’d lose power, but I never felt like I was in danger. I was also never worried that I’d lose everything because I didn’t know that everything could change in the blink of an eye.

The Road So Far
I’ve written about my writing dozens of times. I’ve documented both my successes and my failures. The act of writing is my passion, and it fills with me joy. I can only hope to make a living from it in the future. So far, I’m off to a good start. I recently made over four hundred dollars for an article and a company contacted me about using my writing in one of their upcoming ads. I’ve never won any of the writing contests on Vocal, but I hope to soon because I think my writing voice holds something special.

I Dream of Holding My Book
I can still remember the first (and only) writing contest I’ve ever won. I was in first grade, and we had to write about our favorite books. I wrote about The Little Mermaid, and I was rewarded with a book about a family on a road trip. I’d like to think that was when I realized that I wanted to be a writer, but it probably had more to do with the show Ghost Writer on PBS. To say I liked the show was an understatement since I was so obsessed that I used to write fan fiction about the show. The fan fictions were about what you’d expect from a child, but those fan fictions helped me develop my writing skills.

“Pick Me Girl” — The New Term Being Used to Shame Women
A few years ago, I worked in the automotive department for a popular retailer. I was one of the few women who worked there, but I got along with most of my coworkers. I even asked a few of them if they could teach me about cars, and they taught me everything we did in the shop. I ended up changing oil, and even a tire or two. I even knew more than the new hires, so I helped with training them.

Why Are so Many Women Flaunting Their OnlyFans Earnings?
Whenever I log into TikTok, I’m bombarded by women showing how much they’ve made on the adult site, OnlyFans. The videos usually say something like, “Thinking about making an OnlyFans? This is your sign.” They might flash money on the screen or show something they’ve supposedly bought with their earnings. Some of these women even show screenshots displaying one month of their earnings. If you click on their profile, it will show their OnlyFans origin story, which usually includes them being miserable working in fast food or retail. Suddenly, they’ve stumbled upon OnlyFans and their life got so much better. Now they can afford to pay their rent, buy designer handbags, and get a new car.

The Story of My How I Got My Banned YouTube Channel Back
In 2015, my ex and I created a gaming YouTube channel. It wasn’t anything special and gained little traction, but I kept the channel going after we’d broken up. I didn’t think he would log into the account, so I didn’t bother to change the password. This was a huge mistake on my part because I was banned a few months later for wrongful use of the Copywrite strike system.
