Against My Will. Content Warning.
I have never shied away from writing about my life with bipolar disorder. I firmly believe mental health is something that should be talked about, not hidden away like some dirty little secret. That is how we remove the stigma of mental health disorders.

Love: It's All Greek To Me
Mark and I met one night on a dating app. Neither of us was looking for a relationship, but here we are, together for nine years and married for five years. We have a solid, loving marriage now, but it wasn’t always that way. It was a long road to get here, and the lessons we have learned along the way taught us what true love is and is not.

My First PRIDE Parade
(This piece is for the unofficial challenge in Queer Vocal Voices. The prompt is "What Does Pride Mean To You".) I didn’t know what to expect at the first PRIDE parade I went to. The gay community where I live is…challenging for a lack of a better term. (I will save that story for another time.) Being just out of the closet, I had no idea what the point of the parade was. Until I did some research into why we have pride parades. That is when I learned of the Stonewall riots, and the first parade the year following the riots.

Two Bus Tickets. Top Story - March 2024.
Jeremy sat on a bench outside the bus station while the snow fell softly. Holding two tickets to the city in his hand, his heart was pounding. He used his savings to buy the tickets, and they would live off the rest. He looked at his watch, wondering where Colt was. They were supposed to meet at the bus stop fifteen minutes ago, and Colt wasn’t there yet.

Introducing Queer Vocal Voices. Top Story - February 2024.
Facebook groups truly have become part of the Vocal experience. The groups are a place for sharing your work, reading others' work, and providing general support and encouragement. Each group has a different flavor or specialty, and many of them have features specific to their group. In discussions with two queer friends and creators on Vocal, we noticed that there needs to be a way for queer voices to be heard. Not just heard, magnified. Not just in the PRIDE community, though we encourage every queer creator to publish in PRIDE. But any piece in any community written by any queer creator. Queer, in this case, is an umbrella for all in the LGBTQIA+ community.

My Past Year on Vocal and a New Plan
From the end of 2022 through 2023, I didn't write much. I lost my mom in February of 2023 after a battle with brain cancer. From September 2022 until she passed, my sister and I were her caregivers. That didn't leave much time for writing, though I did write a couple of pieces for my mother. After her death, I struggled with not having a purpose, as I no longer had anyone to care for. I fell into a deep, long-lasting depression. My auntie, who was a rock in our family, passed in December, a few days before Christmas. Grief has no specific time or place and pops up now and then, but going into this year, I am choosing not to sit in my sadness from now on. I believe while our emotions can't be chosen, how much room we give our emotions is what we can control. So, while last year was a bust, I intend to make up for it this year. This challenge piece is the road map for my next year on Vocal.

Battle of the Bulge
I am a big guy. I have been a husky guy since high school. A comfortable weight for me is in the two-twenty range. I am five feet eleven inches tall and currently weigh three hundred and ten pounds. I have gained eighty-plus pounds over the last three years.
