Are We Great, Yet?
America now sits 62 days into a new administration and watched the country either become great, or flipped upside down based on your political perspective. Democrats in office feel powerless because the three branches of government are Republican controlled. Americans who are angry are fighting against elected officials at town hall meetings, or protesting in the streets. Almost every day the country makes international headline with a new executive order flying out from the oval office, each one directed towards reshaping Americans’ lives. To fellow Americans, I have a few questions regarding if we are great, yet.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
Public Service Loan Forgiveness. A program that every public school teacher should apply for and have their student loans forgiven, especially educators who work at a Title 1 schools (80% of the school’s student population derives from low-income families). The Biden Administration began a program to make this a reality for many educators and student loan borrowers. Our current administration revoked it and released a new executive order regarding loan forgiveness (see below for the executive order).

This Adventure Bites
My mouth opens, releasing the pungent smell of the incubated breath from the past 6 hours. Tortilla, processed cheese, chili, and other nom-noms from the previous night’s gathering. My stomach may be happy, but my nose scrunches with disdain. Dizziness circles my head while I reach for my swirly blue-colored toothbrush, my only weapon to combat the budding halitosis. Squeezing the toothpaste on the bristle, a routine I do every morning, a small gruff voice interrupts me.

The Nasty Gender Identity Question
January 26, 2024. We are less than a week into Trump America and have witnessed a significant number of changes to our country and way of life. Trump completes one of his campaign promises to attack the most vulnerable and marginalized group in America: the LGBTQ+ community by signing his executive order claiming there are only two genders, the one assigned at birth. This gender is unchangeable. However, how is someone’s gender identity a threat to our country?

Meta Yields to the Right. Top Story - January 2025.
Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg recently announced META (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads) will no longer use fact checkers and rely on a community notes to report information. Zuckerberg announced the decision after meeting with President-elect Trump. However, what Zuckerberg did not announce was overturning protection for LGBTQ+ community, women, and BIPOC. In other words, META users will be able to attack these marginalized groups with no consequences. Since the announcement, many users on Threads have already begun looking for an alternative social media space, or deleting their accounts from all social media. However, it is vital we stay on these apps and continue to make our presence known in the META-verse.

You have taken the required course to become effective at your job and open to attending professional trainings to evolve and become better. As time moves on, you gain a strong sense of safety at your workplace. You trust the people you collaborate with daily. They trust you as well. Eventually, through team-building exercises and ice breakers, you gain a sense of “family” with your workplace peers. Life could not be any better.

Listening to the Echoes
“What do you want to do after high school?” The question parents love to throw during the senior year. I was ready. I knew deep in my heart what I wanted to become and spend my life doing. I turned to my mom, confidence radiating from me. “I want to become a writer.”
