Life, Tightly Grasped
Indented into my palm, like a thousand other times, I can feel its jagged edges prick places on my calloused skin. The sore spot on the base of my palm, from where my fingers have pressed, what feels like the last of my life, and luck, to arrive safely behind solid doors and walls.

Stilted Heart
Women of a certain age are given specific paths, and if you don't follow, you fall off. You become irrelevant. Unless, by some miracle, you find yourself, while falling through the sky, on that cliff dive. And then that swan song becomes your triumphant melody carrying you through the ages.
