Dear Mom
Dearest Momma, I love you but I am realizing how much I was hurt by you during my childhood. After you died, I got pregnant and had a daughter. I have some of your journals and I have taken a glance through them. I saw your world from the inside of your mind. I am so saddened that you never took more time for yourself. I am saddened that you worked so hard during your life that you had limited time with your children. I am saddened that you always put work before your children. I am proud of the work you did for this world but that doesn't leave me saddened that I wasn't a bigger part of your life. I believe you worked so hard so that you could provide for us, but what we really needed was you.

Who is She?
This is me. 29 years old. This is my dog, Atlas. He’s been my walking partner since I rescued him from Georgia almost three years ago. January 2020, I decided to take a”Life Sabbatical” from my work as a Victim’s Services Specialist. I had been advocating for victims of Hampton Roads for the past five years. I mainly worked with victims of crime in the courthouse through the Commonwelath’s Attorney’s office. And by crime, I mean all crime: Rape, homicide, burglary, assault by mob, shoplifting, and the list goes on for as many criminal laws that exist in the books.

A survivor
I found the the man whom I wanted to be with for the rest of my life 9 months ago. Here I am today, 13 weeks pregnant. No job. No savings. No husband. Only the sheer desire to be a good human and a great mom. I resigned from my “great job” to go out on a limb and start my own business in April but boy did the universe have other plans.
