10 Best Films of 2023
In 2023 I saw a lot of films. Some excellent like this list below, and some not so great (looking at you M3gan). I sat with this list for a while to be honest, most people will have moved on from their top 10 of 2023 lists but I felt I needed to digest my list properly first before I could cement these films and their places.

Comfort Film: Someone Great
I am under no delusion that Someone Great is a masterpiece, if I claimed that it would be a straight-up lie. What I can argue with absolute confidence is that this film is an underrated Netflix original gem that despite what some people assume is not a love story, and that's why it's my main comfort film. Overall I have three films that I consider comfort films which basically means I watch them specifically to bring me joy. A classic and certainly one of the greatest films of all time is Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park passes the Bechdel test, it features Jeff Goldbloom as the damsel in distress whilst badass Laura Dern is saving the day and it has dinosaurs, tell me that isn't a good time. My second comfort film is Kong: Skull Island and honestly I don't have a super in depth explaination for this one I just find it unexpectedly funny and Brie Larson is hot. But Someone Great is my favourite comfort film mostly because I never tire of it and every time I watch it I feel so happy.

Review: Free Guy
During the course of the pandemic I have genuinely missed sitting in the cinema with my snacks to watch a film on the big screen, legit the last film I saw in cinemas before the pandemic was Parasite. So when cinemas opened up again my friend and I jumped at the chance to see Black Widow which was incredible. However a few weeks later we found ourselves struggling for choice with only three films being shown at our local cinema which ultimately led us to taking a chance on Free Guy. We both had vague recollections of the trailer of the film and figured we couldn't really go wrong with Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer so what's the worst that could happen? Sometimes going into a film screening with no expectations is a good thing because we were not expecting Free Guy to blow us away like it did.

Tips For Travelling
1. Mistakes will be made The first time travelling solo or without the moral support of having your dad there (talking to myself) you will make mistakes. When I first travelled with my friends, no parents in sight, nothing seemed to go right for us. Even though I had spent my whole life travelling with my family and watching my dad handle everything I was learning on the job when it came to being the leader of the group. We were supposed to be a group of four but one friend dropped out two weeks before we were due to leave and it was too expensive to change the name on the flight so we went as a trio. I left my hat at security in a rush to help my friends gather their items, our hotel only had one room for us because they had over-booked and one of my friends had to stay in a hotel down the street. I hadn't done my proper research and our hotel was a twenty minute walk to the city centre, I lost my wallet and my friend left my camera in a taxi and had to track it down. Would I have preferred for the holiday to go smoothly, of course, but I learned more in that week than I had watching my dad all those years and these were mistakes that I never made again. Mistakes are the way we learn and at the end of the day none of these situations were the end of the world.

Sequels That Are Surprisingly Better Than The Original.
Occasionally, and I mean very occasionally, a sequel movie can oushine it's predecessor and wiggle it's way into our hearts. Some of the films on this list will be expected, some will be a little out there but stay with me.

A Definitive Ranking of Star Wars Content.
The Star Wars universe is expansive and rather large but with Disney Plus it's now easier than ever to watch all of that content. This list is my personal opinion, I understand that people may not agree with these assessement, but everyone's opinion is valid. Unless you think The Phantom Menace is the best film then you had better leave just now.

Best Shows to Binge-watch During Lockdown
Lockdown was implemented in the U.K just over a week ago and despite being an essential worker I have been forced home due to an injury. This has resulted in complete and utter boredom for myself and my family and so I’ve resorted to adult colouring books and binge-watching various shows. So here is a list of shows to make your lockdown go a little quicker.

Dear whoever is listening.
Recently whilst working the delivery at my job I’ve gotten into listening to podcasts on many different subjects like crime and politics. One of those podcasts was ‘The most important thing you can do to fight climate change: talk about it’ with climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe. This podcast made me stop in my tracks for many reasons. Beginning her talk Hayhoe believes that we as a species see global warming as a constant now - much like the sun rises and sets every day we see it as a natural part of our lives. She walked me through the data. Did you know that almost 70% of people in the U.S agree that our climate is changing and that change will ultimately have an effect on future generations? However only 60% of those Americans believe that the United States will be effected by global warming and furthermore only 40% of them believe that they personally will be effected by global warming. What’s even more alarming is that Hayhoe discussed the history of global warming. It has been over 150 years since climate scientists discovered that we were adding a layer to the ozone layer. It’s been 50 years since a president of the United States was informed that climate change was going to be a serious threat to the world, and that truthfully those who have contributed the least to the problem are bearing the brunt of the impacts. If this is true then why is the fear of global warming just become news recently? Did they truly believe it wouldn’t be a problem? But the thing that really stuck with me that Hayhoe says is that climate change isn’t an issue that’s rooted in science, we know the science exists, but in political alignment. This idea that climate change is a radical liberal issue. This idea that we know global warming exists but we choose to do nothing about it.
