Cats Love Christmas Too
Ice built up on the inside ledge of the window. The fireplace heated the room just enough to melt some of the ice. Itโs a fine balance between the freezing temperatures outside and the warmth inside our carpeted living room. Metronomically, a drip formed. Off the window ledge and onto the floor behind the Christmas tree, bedazzled with tempting lights and ribbons, I watched the drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. My pupils widened. Curiosity and playfulness came over me.

The Forgotten Jam
With only days left until summer vacation and the impending ending of elementary school, Violet, a meek and quiet fifth grader, was anxious to get on with what was yet to come. Middle school was a big deal! First, however, was a bright and sunny two months free of all school stress. Violet was especially looking forward to running barefoot in the grass, eating cotton candy at the circus, catching frogs in the river, and, most of all, reading. A day spent in a shaded porch chair reading a new novel sounded like the perfect day to Violet. Quieter and more mature than her brothers and sisters, she knew she would be content to simply slip away from all of the commotion. Furtively, sheโd find a reading nook, and she would be completely undisturbed while her imagination let her feed unicorns and fly with superheros.

Riding My Bike in the Rain
Itโs raining. The roads glimmer under the streetlights. Passing cars splash through puddles as they drive past me. My jeans are soaked. I donโt care. I am riding my bike and going fast. In second gear, my bike flies as if it is moving through the air. I almost feel like a witch on a broomstick, cackling as I fly.
