The Infamous 9th Legion
The Roman Empire has long been of interest to me. You're almost left in awe at the history this period in time produced. While much of it is widely documented and some of it dramatised for modern film, TV and literature, there are still some gaping holes in our knowledge. Those gaps have given birth to a whole bunch of myths and legends which have fascinated me. One of those particular legends is the complete disappearance of the infamous 9th Legion. Known by their Latin name as Legio IX Hispana.

Top 10 films of 2022
As another year of film and cinema comes to an end, it’s important to reflect upon the diverse nature of the big screen. From the big budget, to the self funded, all the way to the independent studios. There’s always something for everyone, maybe you only took in one or two new films, but I hope they were the best films you’ve ever seen.

Uproar over a celebration?
Football, famous for a variety of aspects. One of those aspects is being able to celebrate your team, country or player in various situations. England winning the World Cup in 1966 sparked nationwide celebrations. Real Madrid winning the Champions League in the 2021/22 season would've caused euphoria amongst their fan-base. You get the idea. If you win something, you'll want to celebrate that fact.

Souls of Men
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. 10,000 years ago, mankind ceased to exist. They dominated the outer reaches of the universe until an event known as The Deliverance wiped them out of existence. However, a small dispatch of hyper wealthy humans managed to avoid such an event by creating a small enough rip in space to escape the vacuum they were in. Around 100 made it through on a small space station and sent themselves on a journey that had no destination.

By Any Means
One tap on the window was enough to stir Jack Connelly. This was followed by two, three, four and so on. The sound of rain hitting the glass intensified which is a sound that Jack is familiar with due to his roots in Ireland, the only thing that perturbed him was the feeling of motion. One eye was able to separate, with the other not too far behind, but he wished he hadn't because of the immense pain he felt in his head. Like several hangover's had hit him at once.

The Silence in the Hills
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. The legend of Pelchor is a story told through the centuries to all young boys and girls. Throughout the country of Maal, children would learn of the chaos and devastation that Pelchor inflicted on the northern territories. A dragon so large it would partially block the sun as it flew through the sky. Fire from deep within so hot it was said to come from the depths of hell itself. His eyes a mixture of black and red, like they had been stained by all his victims. However, the most terrifying aspect of Pelchor is that he was never found to live anywhere, and that no one had ever found his remains. The attacks just stopped. The community of Tyran came together to rebuild their homes and their land, but without any trace of Pelchor, the threat of his return was ever present.

The Ship That Wasn't
Looking up from his textbook, James Ream realised he had missed the entire lecture. The panic came and went in an instant as he always knew the lectures were hit and miss. In fact looking over old textbooks benefited James more than any monotone lecturer could. He stood up and followed the procession of students out of the lecture theatre and made his way to his car. James' day wasn't quite done with and he decided to head to an internet cafe just in town.

What Freedom Means To Me
Freedom is hard to define. We all have an idea of what it looks like, but that changes based on each individual. One person might see freedom as doing whatever you want, someone else might see it as not fearing for their life whenever they’re outside. In truth, there isn’t many people in the world who live in total freedom.

Doing what I can for my team
Sometimes it's hard to know where to start with kindness and generosity. You might say hello to a lonely neighbour every now and again, or you might say yes to that donation when you pay for something. But, you might have a bad day or a bad week and suddenly you don't do any of that. Are you a bad person for it? No, because in those moments where you showed kindness, it made a difference. That lonely neighbour didn't feel so alone for a week. That donation helped a charity afford something for their cause.
