My work aims to provoke reflection, ask uncomfortable questions, and occasionally offer a path forward — but never too easily. When I'm not writing, I'm probably reading three books at once or arguing with myself about which one to finish.

The Curse of King James
She had her arrow aimed at the man's back, a perfect shot despite the crowded ballroom. She took a deep, steadying breath and pulled the bow taut, and prepared to let the arrow fly. But then her target turned and looked directly at her, finding her in the eaves as if he'd known she was there all along. He winked. Startled, she made her way to the door, deciding that tonight he would get away. Instead, however, he met her outside in the courtyard.

The Story of #2,435
Log: #3,285 Name: #2,435 Date: December 18th, 2001 For the last nine years, I have been keeping this journal. However, I recently realized that our way of life isn't usual. If they find this journal, I will be killed; however, I am hoping someone reads it before they do. Fourteen years ago, the government kidnapped me. I am number 2,435 of 63,035. We live in bunkers just outside Maine's borders; however, these bunkers are underground and I cannot tell you the exact location because it will put us in danger.

Tribute to Anne Rice
Looking back at my childhood, I was influenced by many authors; however, Anne Rice was my favorite. She gave us many great stories to escape to; however, my favorite was "Interview with the Vampire.". Unfortunately, this legend died of a stroke at 80 on December 11, 2021. According to CNN, Anne Rice made Lestat do things she could not. But, like many of us, Anne made a world she could escape to, and in a sense, Lestat was who she needed to escape in her 13 book Chronicle series. (Rose, 2021)

Digging Into My Trauma
Most days, I don't know where I am going in life and realize I am wandering aimlessly. However, tonight I had the opportunity to share my past with someone. Most days, I realize the trauma I endured can push me over the edge. But tonight was different (until I got to thinking about it). I began to evaluate what I was going through when I was this child's age. I thought about what would have happened to me had I not found a way out of my own personal hell. Growing up, I always felt so alone, and I have friends who can tell you what a fantastic person I was and how I helped them through school. I wish I could remember all their fond memories of me because I, unfortunately, do not. I have heard stories of how I helped one girl feel safe at school because she had no friends and was new.

Homeschooling
I hear many things when I tell people I homeschool my children. Some think it's noble. Others believe that they should be in school and that it is a waste of my time. Many are concerned about my children's socialization; however, they can hold an adult conversation better than most adults. When in traditional schooling, the teachers often have to tell students they are there to learn and not socialize. I heard that a lot as a child until I lost my voice and listened to those teachers. Of course, we all want what is best for our children, but when is it okay for others to tell you how to raise your child?

The Kidnapping of Scarlet James
I don't know how I got away with murder. Nor do I know how I got on this operating table. I always wondered if I would become someone's freak accident. Upon examining my charts, I learned that I was an orphan. Honestly, I don't remember much. It's funny how we end up right where we are meant to be. I feel like the nurse knows me. Just by the way, he speaks in such a hopeful tone. I recognize his scent, which is odd because I don't remember much. Yet somehow, he feels like I am at home. He reaches out for me in my dreams and screams my name, "ELLA!" or at least I think that is my name. No known kin, which means I am alone. Other than this man with fiery red hair and crystal blue eyes. I know he means something.

Annabelle knew that the only way to save herself, Fredrick, and her children would be to end King James. However, she did not know how to do it. James the II (her and Fredrick's son) was nearing his eighteenth birthday and coronated later in the week. Annabelle had no idea James the II knew the secret of how King James ordered Annabelle to see Fredrick every morning to watch him be tortured.

Empress Avery
The hero didn't snap when the villain killed her family. She didnt snap when the emperor exiled her and turned her friends against her (or so she thought). But the person in the front of her at the tavern has been deciding what to order for fifteen minutes now, and all hell is about to break loose. She has spent entirely too long taking orders from others, and waiting for this man to decide what he wants to drink has turned into the last straw. Avery grabs the nearest tray and slams it into the unsuspecting man. At this point, the whole tavern is turned to her. Couples begin to whisper, "Isn't that the woman the emperor exiled from the town over?" and "I heard she killed ten guards with her bare hands and a toothpick."

Previous Chapter Meanwhile, Athelayna had her problems. As she woke, she thought, "It wasn't supposed to end this way." But she couldn't escape. Everything had gone wrong. The world was in flames around her, and it was all her fault. Athelayna knew there was only one way out, but she did not want to condemn her race. Athelayna heard rummaging in the distance. However, she couldn't make out the face of the cloaked stranger. "Oh Athalyana you stupid stupid girl. Look what you have done." the stranger chuckled.

The Kidnapping of Scarlet James Part Three
Upon awakening, I do not see Alvin, the nurse, or Jennifer. I feel an uneasy feeling in my stomach as I search the room. At this point, I find myself tied to the hospital bed with leather straps. Before I can panic a man, I do not recognize walks in. He speaks in a low, calm voice, "Scarlet." he mutters before Alvin arrives. "I told you I am here for the girl, not you. Do not make this harder than it must be. Hand her over Alvin!" he suddenly shouts. He notices I am startled when he comes towards; however, Alvin puts his arm between the stranger and me and snaps, "And I told you, over my DEAD BODY!". The stranger chuckles and says, "That can be arranged brother.".
