Emiliano Zapata Salazar was born on August 8, 1879 in Anenecuilco, Morelos, Mexico. His parents were Gabriel Zapata and Cleofas Salazar. He had six sisters (Celsa, Ramona, María de Jesús, María de la Luz, Jovita and Matilde) and three brothers: Pedro, Eufemio (who also reached the rank of general in the Revolution) and Loreto.
