When I watch a period drama, I'm always curious about the history of the era, the backgrounds of the characters, and the fashion, accents, and culture of the time. Before watching Queen Charlotte, the prequel to the popular series Bridgerton on Netflix, I did some research on the real Queen Charlotte and the era in which the show is set. However, the show begins with a disclaimer that it is not a history lesson but rather fiction inspired by fact. This immediately informs the viewer that the show should not be taken seriously and is a fictional tale about a king and queen and their extravagant subjects.
