The Race Tightens
The Colorado Avalanche's winning streak was snapped on Tuesday, but the points streak remains, as the loss in Minnesota was via shootout. The Avs are still red hot and moving closer to the Dallas Stars in the Central Division standings. Next up, the two-game road trip concluded with a visit to Calgary against the Flames--the Avs' final trip to Western Canada this regular season. In this game, both teams are fighting for something. The Avs are trying to keep pace with the Dallas Stars, but the Flames are trying to hold to their very small advantage over the Vancouver Canucks in the playoff race.

For Elena Ochoa, this was quite a 21st birthday. She had been training to become a professional wrestler since she turned 18, but overall, this had been a dream for her since she was six. Elena had a few matches in the indies, but the bout she had was the perfect definition of the phrase, "baptism by fire."

The day had finally arrived. After many months of planning, getting all of the details right, and all sorts of other intangibles, it was finally here. Shayla Gibson and Trevor Paxton were finally going to have their wedding. Shayla had been waiting for this day for the longest time. She had been in love with Trevor for years, and it was a year prior that Trevor reciprocated Shayla's romantic feelings, resulting in their relationship, eventual engagement, and now, the big moment--the day that Trevor and Shayla would say "I do" to each other, and officially become husband and wife at last.

The Bright Side
We Colorado Avalanche fans had to be feeling pretty damn good. A six game homestand that we swept. Nathan MacKinnon became the first to 100 points this season, and joined the 1000 career point club (in fact, he's the 100th member of that club) on Monday. The Avs moved up to third place in the Central Division thanks to the six game winning streak, and after so much home cooking, it was time to travel for the first time in weeks. The destination: Minnesota.

One Thousand and One MacKinnon Tales
There is no player in this league better than Nathan Raymond MacKinnon. The Colorado Avalanche completed a six-game homestand on Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks, and we were looking to make it a perfect six-for-six. Elsewhere, Nathan MacKinnon was looking to reach 1000 career points, only needing just one point to get there. Only 10 active players have reached that number, and MacKinnon was looking to become #11. Also, welcome back, Erik Johnson, as "The Condor" was in the lineup for this game, his first game of his second stint with the Avs.

"Beyond The Gates" Week 2 Review
I'm still in "mark-out" mode regarding the first week of Beyond the Gates. I said this a number of times before and I'll say it again: the soap opera genre needed this. Badly. Mostly because of the representation, but also because this show is not as dramatic as the average soap. As I said, the first week was stellar, absolutely epic as hell. And that first week has resulted in huge ratings for CBS in that time slot.

Stanley Cup Playoff Push 2025: Ebb and Flow
Another week has passed, and we are down to less than 40 days left in the NHL's regular season! The month of March is almost one-third over, and we have some movers and shakers in the playoff race. On Saturday, during ABC's coverage of their early games, I saw, for the first time this season, a semblance of a promo for this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs. The promo, featured on the bottom of the screen, showed that ESPN and ABC's coverage of the playoffs starts on April 20, but according to online reports, April 19 is the start day for this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"I just wanted to hold my grandson." Those seven words were uttered by Roberta Bascomb, nicknamed "Bobbie" by her close friends. Those seven words were part of the same story that she told her longtime friend, Paula Dunlop. The story involved the marriage between her son, Nicholas Bascomb, and his wife of three years, Hannah Moon. Roberta said that she loved how happy her "little Nicky" was with Hannah, and she saw Hannah as her own daughter. Hannah wanted so badly to be a mother, but she couldn't, and in the end, Hannah tragically took her own life.

Warm Welcomes, a Milestone, and a Hat Trick
The trade deadline for this season has come and gone, and the Colorado Avalanche's last deals came within the final 24 hours of the deadline. It was during the game against the Sharks on Thursday that the Avs traded for Brock Nelson, but after that, a pair of deals went down on deadline day. First off, Casey Mittelstadt was dealt to the Boston Bruins for Charlie Coyle, a move I thought was hella risky, but we'll see how it works out. Secondly, a very epic return: Erik Johnson was traded back to the Avs. He had been with the Buffalo Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers for a brief bit, but he's now back where he belongs. The first player to touch the Stanley Cup after Gabriel Landeskog is now back with the Avs.

We Colorado Avalanche fans are really blessed, aren't we? When this six-game homestand started, I was excited. The Avs lost the first two games after the Four Nations break, and it was not good. We needed something after that. A six-game homestand for any team is just what the doctor ordered. The mission was simple. The Avs had twelve points to get. So get them. So far, so good. Defeated the Devils. Defeated the Wild. Defeated the Penguins. Three-for-three on the homestand. Still have six more points to get. Next up, the lowly, lowly, San Jose Sharks. Again, I'm excited.

A Look at the Boston Bruins' Playoff Streak (Which Could Come to an End)
We are in the early stages of what should be a very captivating home stretch, and we are seeing some surprising teams rise to the occasion. However, such is life in sports, when teams rise, it's because certain other teams declined, and one such team this year is the Boston Bruins. Stanley Cup Playoff hockey in Beantown has been quite the norm lately. Eight straight playoff appearances; tied with the rival Toronto Maple Leafs for the longest current streak in the NHL. And with that, a realization hit me. I've seen quite a few playoff streaks in sports, but if they really don't lead to much, is it really a good stretch?
