2025 Conference Finals Preview
32 teams started this journey in October. 16 qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and at exactly one month in to this wonderful annual madness, we are now down to the final four teams remaining. I've said this many times before; I absolutely love the last round before the championship, because the pomp and circumstance increases. In every one of the main leagues, whether it's the League Championship Series in baseball, the Conference Championships in the NFL, or the Conference Finals in the NBA and NHL, there is always an aura. Trophies are awarded at the end of the penultimate round of each sport's playoffs, and regarding the NHL's trophies, I'll get to those later.

What Went Wrong: The Toronto Screwjob
Canada is doomed to be a magnet for screwjobs. First Bret Hart in Montréal, and now, the Toronto Maple Leafs were screwed over on their home ice. The refs really did their best to hand Florida this series. As soon as the Leafs went up 2-0 in the series, the refs really got to work in Games Three and Four. No penalties called on Florida. Panthers getting away with so much obvious shit. The result: a 2-2 series tie entering Game Five, which the Leafs were blasted in. Now, Game Five's not on the refs; the Leafs did not play well. But Game Six proved that when the refs are actually unbiased, the Leafs win.

"Beyond the Gates" Week 12 Review
Amazing that we are closing in on three months since Beyond the Gates hit CBS, and this soap has really turned heads and drawn massive attention in such a short time. This past week has been quite eventful; the fallout from Leslie's actions continued on, and it's been very fruitful, indeed.

What Went Wrong: A Tale of Two Hellebuycks
Six teams remained on this day, and half of them were Canadian. I found myself pulling for a Canadian-dominated Final Four, with three of the four teams being from the nation sitting above this one. It's the most that could possibly happen, considering the fact that the Metropolitan Division has no Canadian teams. The Winnipeg Jets actually finished with the best record in the league for the first time in their 26-year franchise history. The team looked like a big favorite to at least get to the Cup Final.

SNF on NBC Turns 20
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the NFL released their full schedule for the 2025 season, which is the league's 106th season. The schedule release is the last big NFL date during to offseason prior to the first preseason game taking place, and it's an occurrence that I just can't help but love. It's during the tail end of the playoffs that the year's opponents are unveiled, but we would have to wait until a few weeks after the draft for an actual full 272-game schedule. I love this because as a Green Bay Packers fan, I look for those national TV spots we get, and regarding regional coverage, I have my fingers crossed on hopes that the Packers will air in my area.

What Went Wrong: 8 + 895 = 1
Well, Capitals, I hope it was worth it. The entire 2024-25 Washington Capitals season seemed to be focused on one thing and one thing only: 895. That was the magic number: 895. Alex Ovechkin entered this on the verge of that record, and boy, did the Capitals really try to get that record for him. They did finally get it for him. Ovi put up #895. He added two more by regular season's end, but in all of this, the Capitals somehow had a great season and managed to finish on top of the entire Eastern Conference. They even won a series for the first time since they lifted Lord Stanley above their heads.

Velma Was Always LGBT, Stop Pretending She's Not
When I called out a wave of cancellations of shows that featured massive amounts of representation of marginalized communities, one of the many things I said at that time was that there were two shows that I was the most fearful for: Chucky and Velma. I wish I could be wrong about something for a change. Sure enough, both shows had been cancelled since I wrote that piece. While the Chucky cancellation angered me more, I want to focus on Velma, because I've been sitting on this for many months.

What Went Wrong: Pawns
I will never figure out why the Vegas Golden Knights are always high Stanley Cup favorites, even higher than the Avalanche. "But they won in 2023," you'll say. Yes, they did, but that Cup is sandwiched by some embarrassing playoff defeats. I said this before about playoff streaks and stretches: they can be good, but only if there's depth. For the most part, the Golden Knights' exits have been quite shameful.

From Worst to First: A Look at the 1991 Minnesota Twins
When I wrote my "What Went Wrong" story about the Minnesota Wild, I mentioned that the entire state is immensely jinxed in pro sports. Since the old Minneapolis Lakers dominated in the 1950s, it's been hell for the entire state. The Lakers moved to LA and added a dozen more championships, but Minnesota would get a new NBA team, the Timberwolves, who have been immensely snakebit, but that could change. Minnesota also had two NHL franchises who were hard luck, but at least the old North Stars had close calls. The same cannot be said for the Wild, and similar to the old Lakers, the North Stars had to relocate to finally win the big one. And don't get me started on the Vikings. Made four of the first 11 Super Bowls, but lost them all, and it's been almost five decades since they've played in the big game.

"Beyond the Gates" Week 11 Review
The events of Week 10 were quite explosive, to say the least. When an explosion happens, all that's left is to look at the rubble, the aftermath. Here's one of the few things I know about soaps: they have, well, phases. I feel like what we watched in Week 10 was the conclusion of a long angle that began with the show's premiere and ended with the episode that aired on May 2. So now that everything came flooding out during that week, we have to wonder what the aftermath would be.

Stating the Obvious: The Colorado Rockies SUCK!
Seriously, what in blue blazes happened to this team?! On Saturday, May 10, 2025, while I was watching some Stanley Cup and NBA playoff action, I noticed something very alarming on the MLB scoreboard. The San Diego Padres were winning 20-0 over the Colorado Rockies... in the sixth inning! The sixth inning! And here I thought the Chargers moved out of San Diego. They did end up getting the extra point. The Rockies lost 21-0. At home.
