Antonella Barba's Fall From Grace
An immensely stunning true crime story actually involved a contestant from American Idol; her name: Antonella Barba. This story really amazed me when I heard about it, especially due to what she was known for and for the crime she committed. Here's the story:

What Went Wrong: Is the Bruins' Window Closed?
The Boston Bruins suffered a blowout loss--6-2--against the New York Islanders in Game Six of the East Division Final, handing the team their 2nd-straight second round elimination since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. The loss and elimination means that the Bruins have now gone a full decade since winning the Stanley Cup in the 2010-11 season--a drought that has seen the Bruins reach the Final twice, losing to the Chicago Blackhawks (six games) in 2013, and losing to the St. Louis Blues (seven games) in 2019.

Stacey Castor: Poisonous and Pathological
A story that I just can't help but be fascinated with involves Stacey Castor, a twice married mother of two who was, in actuality, a greedy and depraved murderess. I actually remember hearing about Stacey on the news, and I had also seen the Forensic Files episode centering on Stacey Castor a number of times. The more I watch that episode and think about that story, the more I'm amazed by everything. Here's the story.

Maria Sosa: Exotic Dancer Turned Murder-For-Hire Villainess
I've been a true crime enthusiast since high school, and I am more often drawn to stories of crimes committed by women, with shows like Snapped and Deadly Women continuing to prove the words of Rudyard Kipling to be true: "The female of the species is deadlier than the male." The murder-for-hire stories often intrigue me, because it always amazes me that a person could be so callous and cruel as to actually pay (lots of) money to have someone else killed. Even more amazing, a lot of the murder-for-hire stories I've heard have featured women as the mastermind, and one such woman was Maria Sosa.

Villainess Review: Gina (Gridlocked)
I fondly remember watching Gridlocked for the first time five years ago; this film was released in Canada in 2015, but received a wider release in the following year. The film centered on two characters: Brody Walker, a notorious, trouble-making celebrity (we've seen a lot of those), and David Hendrix, the leader of a group of SWAT officers. So Brody found himself doing community service as part of another screw-up, and it included being under the watchful eye of Hendrix, with both parties sharing a mutual disdain for the arrangement.

What Went Wrong: Hurricanes Ousted in Five by Defending Champions
The Carolina Hurricanes boasted a loaded lineup that got them first place in the makeshift Central Division this season, and while it was enough to beat the Nashville Predators, it wasn't enough against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Central Division Final. The Hurricanes' 2-0 shutout loss to the defending Stanley Cup Champions on Tuesday ended their season; a five-game loss to the Lightning that saw the Hurricanes suffer three of their losses on home ice. This is their third straight postseason following a drought of nine seasons; 2019 saw them reach the Eastern Conference Final and get swept by the Bruins, and 2020 saw the Hurricanes sweep the Rangers in the Qualifying Round, only to lose to the Bruins in Round 1 in the Toronto bubble.

A Twisted Deception
"Marisol Fuentes, will you marry me?" Those six words coming from Isabel Cruz, Marisol's girlfriend, were what Marisol had dreamed of hearing ever since she was a little girl. Marisol and Isabel had been dating for nearly a year, having met during their freshman year in college and hitting it off instantly. They never really discussed marriage during their time as a couple, so Marisol was stunned by Isabel's proposal, though she was very elated over the thought of spending the rest of her life with someone she loved dearly.

What Went Wrong: Jets Swept Out of Elite Eight
The North Division was the last to complete the opening round of this year's playoffs, but they were the first to crown a playoff division champion, as the Winnipeg Jets ended up swept by the Montréal Canadiens in the North Division Final. The Jets swept the Edmonton Oilers to advance, but when it came to the Canadiens, the Jets couldn't handle the team who was coming off a comeback series win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. While this is still an improvement over last year, and also exceeded expectations for them in the playoffs, it is still a disappointing end for a strong team.

How I Grew to Love (and Dominate) Fantasy Sports)
I had been familiar with the concept of Fantasy Sports for a long time, usually Fantasy Football, that's always the most popular one. But I had a long aversion to it, and it was mainly due to my self-confidence--or lack thereof--regarding Fantasy Sports as a whole. For years, I had thought it was difficult, despite not really knowing the full concept. Then in January 2018, at the recommendation of a very dear friend, I entered a Fantasy Sports related contest that centered on the NFL Playoffs. A lot of you know what it is: the Fantasy Playoff Challenge.

Villainess Review: Alice Sands (Rizzoli & Isles)
Viewers just saw Annabeth Gish as Jennifer Dulos in Lifetime's true crime film, Gone Mom: The Disappearance of Jennifer Dulos, which is not Gish's first time in a Lifetime film--she appeared as the main protagonist in A Mother's Nightmare (which featured Grant Gustin, The Flash himself, playing Gish's son, and briefly returned in the sequel, A Father's Nightmare. In her amazing acting career, which includes (among other things) co-starring with Julia Roberts in Mystic Pizza, Gish has played her share of villainous roles, with the baddest one being Alice Sands, a recurring Big Bad who impacted the sixth season of Rizzoli & Isles, before officially appearing in the beginning of the show's seventh and final season.

Villainess Review: Emily Brown (The Captive Nanny)
There was a primary reason why I was counting down the days until Lifetime aired The Captive Nanny, but I'll get to it later. This film, which aired on May 30, 2020, centered on main protagonist Chloe, who was hired to serve as a nanny for young Tommy Brown, by his mother, Emily. Chloe is elated to have a job as a nanny, and regarding Emily, she welcomes Chloe with open arms. However, Emily basically has one key rule: Tommy is not to leave the house. When he is taken outside by Chloe, Emily scolds her newly hired nanny, but then tells Chloe her reasons for her strict rules.

Villainess Review: Francine Campali (Murdered at 17)
In 2018, Lifetime gave us Murdered at 17, one of the many installments from their themed "At 17" films, and this film's central villain was Jake Campali, who is visited by his mother, Francine, as the film's opening scene. Jake is clearly not happy to see his mother, who visited Jake under the claim that his father, Mike, was dying from cancer and she needed money to help pay his medical bills. Jake basically celebrated the news, and the reason: Mike was very abusive to Jake during his childhood, and in addition, Francine turned a blind eye to her husband's abuse.
