Divisional Playoff Recap: Josh Allen is a Choke Artist, Stop Pretending He's Not
As long as I can remember, I've always really loved the Divisional Playoff. The Divisional Playoff was originally the opening round of the merged NFL's playoffs, officially born in the same year that the merger happened: 1970. Since 1978, the Divisional Playoff has been the second round, and it's the round where the teams on bye are introduced. In addition, the Divisional Playoff serves as the final week to feature Saturday games, and also kicks off the "set bracket" portion of the playoffs.

Homestand Part IV: Crushed
Well... that happened. The Colorado Avalanche had a long layoff after the overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. That loss snapped a 17-game home winning streak, but the points streak remained. 22 home games, lost three--all past regulation. After three days off, the Avs were back in action against the Nashville Predators, and I always get nostalgic when the Avs and Preds get together. The teams met twice in the playoffs, in 2018 and 2022, and because of those meetings, I've always said that it's fun when these teams get together.

Recapping an Amazing Night for the Knockouts on Impact's AMC Premiere
The broadcast history of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has always been quite interesting. TNA started in 2002, but it wasn't until 2004 that they had an actual TV deal. I remember their days on Fox Sports Net, but it was in the fall of 2005 that TNA moved to what was then known as Spike TV, moving there just days after the network aired WWE's Raw program for the final time. It was around that time that I started watching TNA, and they were on Spike for nine years. After that, it was years of being on a lot of different channels. Destination America and Pop, two channels that no one would know without TNA. It's similar to how TruTV airs the earliest March Madness games. I still remember the brief time when they were on Twitch in 2019, but that ended that fall when they moved to AXS TV.

Homestand Part III: Close Call
So far, the Colorado Avalanche are two-for-two in this long homestand that will dominate the month of January. A blowout win over the Ottawa Senators, and then, a shutout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. On Monday, we played host to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who desperately needed something. It had been a long season for the team, who find themselves in danger of their long playoff streak coming to an abrupt end.

Villainess Review: Amanda (Disturbing the Peace)
It's been a minute, or two, or three, since I've written a Villainess Review, though the year-end Top 10 lists centered on Lifetime film villainesses feel like a big two-part review. One of my big promises for 2026: the Villainess Reviews will be plentiful again. I don't have a set schedule for them; I never do. But there will be quite a bit on Vocal, as this April will mark my fifth anniversary of me actually doing this. Fittingly, my very first of almost 2000 stories on this site was a Villainess Review.

Wild Card Weekend Recap: What Happens Now?. Top Story - January 2026.
I think I figured out why I love Wild Card Weekend so much. It's because it's the first playoff anything of the calendar year. The NFL season starts in the fall, and once upon a time, the champion was crowned either on or slightly before New Year's. The evolution of the NFL schedule has resulted in the playoffs starting just into the New Year, and currently, the final week of the season falls on the first weekend of the New Year, with Wild Card Weekend coming a week after that. So yes, chronologically, the NFL's Wild Card Weekend serves as the first playoff anything of the calendar year.

"Beyond the Gates" Weeks 38-44 Recap
It's been a minute since I delivered a Beyond the Gates recap, but I want to start with this. If you had told me that in 2025 and now into 2026 that I'd be religiously watching any soap opera, I would have looked at you like you had three heads or something. My feelings about soaps had always been complicated. I had peeped into some of the classics at times, but I was never a religious viewer. A question I never asked myself was this: "What would it take for me to actually watch a soap every day?"

Homestand Part II: Not-So-Usual Suspects
On Thursday, the Colorado Avalanche's long homestand began against the Ottawa Senators, and it was a slaughter. An 8-2 victory that saw the Avs put six pucks in the net during the middle period. Martin Necas and Brock Nelson each reached the 20-goal mark during that game, and the highlight was Josh Manson's Gordie Howe Hat Trick--two goals, two assists, and a fight, with his dad, legendary player Dave Manson, in attendance.

Homestand Part I: Like Father, Like Son
The Colorado Avalanche were in a new position this season: we were coming off back-to-back regulation losses. The Avs' three game Southeastern swing didn't go our way. A win in Raleigh followed by back-to-back regulation losses in Florida; Panthers first, then Lightning. So that gave us a grand total of... four. Four regulation losses. Still very low. It lowers our win total pace, but honestly, I could care less about that. Yes, winning during the regular season is important, but what really matters is getting those final 16 wins in the end and being the last team standing. That is a feeling we experienced three times before.

A Rough Road Trip
When we last left our boys, it was 2025. We ended the year with a big time beatdown of the St. Louis Blues, and before we knew it, it was 2026! The Avs' tear continued! A 12-1-1 record in the month of December! Still holding the best record in the NHL, and that includes staying ahead of the surging Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild in the Central. It's a new year now, and the month of January is important. It's the last month before any breaks, and I say it like that because for the second straight year, there's no All-Star Game.

NFL Week 18 Recap: Do or Die
Week 18. This is Year Five of the permanent 18-week regular season, and no matter where the final week falls on the calendar, it's always amazing and full of wild and crazy moments. 256 games have played, leaving the final 16 left. As is the case, not all of the 16 games have meaning. Some have importance, some way more than others, some teams are playing for the top draft pick, and then there's the games that are in the middle.

How to End a Calendar Year
Happy New Year, all! And that "all" includes my fellow fans of the Colorado Avalanche! Boy, did we end 2025 on a winning note! We had five games left in the calendar year... and we won them all! First off, we defeated the Minnesota Wild in grand fashion, and that was beautiful, because those Wild were sure excited after the team got Quinn Hughes. And why wouldn't they be? He's a star on the blue line. Of course, they had to realize that they only have the second-best defenseman in the league, because as good as Hughes is, he's no Cale Makar.
