Villainess Review: Amanda (Disturbing the Peace)
A WWE legend's long overdue heel turn takes place in this action-packed 2020 film

It's been a minute, or two, or three, since I've written a Villainess Review, though the year-end Top 10 lists centered on Lifetime film villainesses feel like a big two-part review. One of my big promises for 2026: the Villainess Reviews will be plentiful again. I don't have a set schedule for them; I never do. But there will be quite a bit on Vocal, as this April will mark my fifth anniversary of me actually doing this. Fittingly, my very first of almost 2000 stories on this site was a Villainess Review.
This is one I've been sitting on for at least two years. Some time ago, I finally caught the film, Disturbing the Peace, which came out in 2020. The film centers on Jim Dillon, a former Texas Ranger who relocates to the small town of Horse Cave, Kentucky (current estimated population: 2,270) and works as a U.S. Marshal. Marshal Dillon. There's a joke in there somewhere. Before I continue, I want to say that one of the things that drew me to this film was Guy Pearce as Dillon; seeing him in a heroic role is kinda rare.
Dillon's deputy, Matt Reynolds, is a fresh faced rookie who is shown to clearly have a thing for the local bank's teller, Amanda, but his affections are the least of his (and everyone else's) problems. Trouble is afoot, in the form of a dangerous biker gang led by Diablo, and they plan to rob that bank--among many other sinister things that could plague the town. The gang arrives, and in a not-s0-shocking turn of events, Amanda pops up and makes out with one of the gang members. So Amanda's part of that gang as well, and she's not the only female member; a second lethal beauty, Trixie, was shown with the group as well.
Unsurprisingly, this becomes hostage situation with Diablo leading the charge and even planning to eliminate people who are held captive at the local church. Speaking of, that's where Amanda, in all her bad-ass glory, is--she was holding everyone in that church at gunpoint, and "everyone" included Catie, a local waitress, who manages to disarm Amanda during a struggle, and then eliminate Amanda.

Disturbing the Peace definitely had its moments, but the main one, of course, was Amanda, who was played by Barbie Blank--Kelly Kelly to us WWE fans. We all know Kelly Kelly's WWE run; debuted on the premiering ECW brand in 2006 at age 19, was part of Extreme Exposé, began appearing on the main shows in 2008, and then had a 2011 that saw her actually defend Edge's World Heavyweight Championship, and capture the Divas Championship. All of those different accolades, but there's one common factor in all of them: she was a babyface for her entire career. Kelly Kelly never turned heel as a wrestler, but in the world of film acting, Barbie Blank turned heel for this deliciously evil role. Amanda was quite the villainess; she was every bit as lethal and ruthless as her fellow gang members were. I still just love that smirk Amanda flashes just under a minute after her heel turn; just so spectacular.
Blank, who turns 39 today, wasn't the only woman of wrestling in this film, as fellow villainess Trixie was played by Leticia Cline, who worked as an interviewer for TNA years prior. Regarding the former WWE Divas Champion, I truly hope this isn't the last time she plays a villainess. Barbie Blank proved that she can do the villainess thing very well if given the chance.

After I clicked, I saw the v and the els in villainess and had a moment of recoil because I thought I had accidentally taken myself to a villanelle. Can’t even begin to tell you how much relief “villainess” gave me. 💖
This is interesting! I saw the movie but should see it again
