A British Christmas for this American
In London, Christmas is quite the sight to see; lights hanging along Regent Street, Ice Skating at the Somerset House as a 40 foot Christmas tree towers over you, and Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park or catching the timeless play "The Snowman." There is no shortage of activities and venues for the whole family, but what about on actual Christmas day? What is it you do for Christmas when you are an ex-pat and away from home during the holidays? You have yourself a Traditional English Christmas with your friend's family in the English countryside. At least, that is how the holiday played out for this expat. I was able to see firsthand how Christmas traditions vary not just with family traditions but with cultural differences.

There are things people always warn you about; Watch your pockets and keep your bags close, watch your drinks, and even more common watch going anywhere alone. You always hear horror stories about pickpockets and having things stolen during travel; sadly, I have been a victim of such crimes.

Authentic Tonkotsu Ramen in the heart of London
One thing that is not in short supply in London is a vast array of venues featuring different ethnic foods. As of recently, I wanted to give a particular person in my life a unique birthday that they would remember. Knowing they were a fan of authentic Japanese food, I set out in search of the one thing they had not tried yet, a traditional ramen bar. Now London is in no way lacking if you are looking for sushi or ramen restaurants, so at first, my search ended up with many places but most were quite pricey. When I thought I would have to spend an arm and leg to give them their first authentic ramen experience, I was about to accept the defeat of my pocketbook when hope shined its light with a familiar name from my time in Japan: Kanada-Ya.

Walk down any street, turn any corner, and you will find a gem in the beautiful city of Madrid, unsurprising from the European Capital of Culture. The city offers an array of cultural venues and activities in all shapes and sizes. Madrid likes to keep their secrets more hidden with alternative meeting places for social and cultural debates, unlike its more flamboyant sister city Barcelona. Among these meeting places are numerous culinary delights, including a century-old restaurant with an exquisite menu and winery.

Things that should be understood about PTSD
I left home, my comfort zone, to live and travel abroad a few years ago. While I do enjoy it, it can be a hassle as well. Especially when suffering from PTSD, and before you ask or assume, no, I have never been in a war or served in the Military. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 7.7 million adults have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Some believe it is only associated with war veterans, events such as 9/11, or natural disasters. It is a common misconception that those are the only people who suffer from it; trauma has many faces, and other events can trigger PTSD symptoms, such as prolonged exposure to emotional and psychological abuse.

Why Toledo is the city of three cultures
Historical sites are in abundance in Europe. Yes, the US has its history, but our country is still pretty young. Compared to other places globally, our history is still in its infancy, with many countries' history effortlessly going back millenniums and the US only almost two and a half centuries old. One of my favorite countries in the world is Spain, with its beautiful cities like Barcelona, Madrid, and Toledo. While Madrid is currently my home, Toledo holds its unique beauty and sometimes bloody history.
