Prologue There weren't always dragons in the valley. Once the children roamed free. Then, the great shadow fell over the plains. The fowl swam silently through the air, as Ryen followed, slowed by a heavy pale of water, she stumbled. Her eyes traced its ascent into the clouds. Her strength gave way. Before her pale reached the ground, the drakgon swooped to within a few feet of it and floated to the ground. Ryen froze.
