What Happens Now?
We’re still waiting for the final results of the Presidential election as I write this. By the time this is published to Vocal. Media we may very well know who will be the one running the country for the next four years. Much can be said about the brutality of the actual elections, but that’s not going to be what this piece is about. Trust me when I say I have an axe to grind and will share my thoughts about it, but in a productive manner. For this piece though, I want to talk about how we can do our best to move forward after what has been a traumatic saga for many in this country.

Continuing to Accomplish Small Things in a Great Way
In the days leading up to the upcoming Presidential Elections, it seems to be no coincidence that I would finish reading “Small Great Things”, a 2016 novel by best-selling author Jodie Picoult (known for novels like “The Pact” and “My Sister’s Keeper”) which discusses racism in America. It’s a story about an African American Labor and Delivery nurse by the name of Ruth Jefferson with twenty years of experience who is ordered not to act as the nurse for the newborn baby of a White Supremacist. When there’s an emergency with the newborn and Ruth is left alone with the child, being the only one around in the moment, she is forced to decide whether she should act and help the child, or risk disobeying her supervisor’s instructions; all of which will lead to a criminal case where Ruth is put on trial for her actions. This story is told from three first person accounts, Ruth Jefferson, the African American Labor and Delivery nurse; Turk Baurer, the father of the infant and White Supremacist; and public defender Kennedy, who is white, who doesn’t consider herself to be racist despite her more than apparent racial ignorance and biases. What these voices bring to the story is a realistic and believable account of the issue from all sides with one important point ringing true once you come to the end of the book. That racism isn’t just the angry white supremacists, though they do still exist as we’ve recently seen. Racism is also our own ignorance to the big picture, the way a white person might cross the street if they see someone color walking in their direction. The way a white woman might clutch her purse a little tighter if a black gentlemen steps onto an elevator with her. Or the way a white person might go out of their way to overcompensate how they speak around a person of color so the white person will not come off as racist.

Britney Spears: The Next Showbiz Casualty?
Before I say anything here, I want to make one thing clear. All of the points mentioned in this article are all speculation based on what has been released on the internet by those closely involved with the life of Britney Spears, as well as statements made by Britney Spears herself. Any beliefs I make in this article are purely my personal opinion based on what is available to me. I don’t claim to know anything more than anyone else. I have no first-hand knowledge of Britney Spears personal life and cannot prove anything to be fact or speculation. So please, don’t take what I have to say in this article as an attack on those involved closely with this situation, or as a pass to attack those involved or try to intervene with any court proceedings involving Britney Spears; such as hacking into virtual court rooms or anything like that. This only adds to the problem when what we really need to do is focus on how we can be part of the solution. My only intention like with any of my articles I’ve written and will continue to write about the lives of celebrities is simply to start a conversation, not gossip, but a constructive conversation that might lead us to something good in the end. With that, on with the article.

Rosemary's Bastard
This Review contains some spoilers. Before turning on Rosemary’s Baby, I had heard much praise from many different friends, many I know through theatre, are avid film buffs like me, or have just said it’s worth watching Along with those I mentioned who I know personally, I’ve heard many critics talk about how much they loved this film. One of my favorite authors, Stephen King, was among them. So with all of this in mind going into the movie, I was beyond excited. However, after finishing the movie, I was more than disappointed, I was pissed. Watching this movie made me angry, which is something that rarely happens to me with films. But this film, from beginning to end, made me mad. And since we’re in the wonderful month of October, with horror movies coming out of our ears in preparation for Halloween, I felt it was appropriate to warn you all who perhaps haven’t seen this film before you waist any portions of your valuable time.

Entertainment Within Despair
One might wonder how we can narrow down the greatest horror films to a select few when the selection is so vast. How to we narrow this number down to a top five, a top ten, or even a top twenty when there are so many great horror films out there to choose from? This isn’t something that’s easy to do, in my opinion it’s next to impossible, but many have done it. I am going to attempt to do it here myself. I can’t narrow down the best of the best. What I can do is name three films have an equal amount of respect and appreciation for. I won’t be naming one over the other, or say one is lower than another, rather I’ll just talk about their strengths, their themes, and just talk about why these movies need to be seen especially around Halloween.

Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Showbiz Casualty
A little bit of everything has been written about Michael Jackson both in the fifty years he spent with us, as well as in the eleven years he’s been gone; everything from an alleged attempted purchase of the Elephant Man’s bones, sleeping in a hypobaric chamber, and the worst of them all, accusations of pedophilia. Where the latter differs dramatically from the former, is the truth that there is little to no real evidence when you run through the facts of the allegations with a fine toothed comb. So, why did allegations of pedophilia even come up you might ask? How did it get as far as becoming public and open to media scrutiny? How did it all come to the point where there was even a trial? And how did all of this ultimately, lead to Michael Jackson’s death? Much of this is speculation, my own personal opinion, with all the information that is out for the public to see. All I can hope with writing this, is you’ll let it sit in your head for a while, make up your own minds, rather than have the story the media has tried to brainwash you with cloud your judgement.

Latasha's Song Can Still Be Heard
The short original Netflix documentary “A Love Song For Latasha”. In its twenty minute running time, what you get is a powerful, heart breaking look at the young girl, who at fifteen years old, had her life cut tragically short. While it would have been easy to focus entirely on the circumstances surrounding her untimely death, what we got with this short film was an insight into the young girl herself.

The Soul Food We Didn't Know We Needed
When most people think of food for the soul, what comes to mind for many might be something more kin to yoga, meditation, or the advice from self-help gurus. These are things I also enjoy from time to time, so I can understand the appeal. However, these days, what has helped feed my soul, is the new Netflix original series titled “Ratched”, a prequel series about Nurse Mildred Ratched, the antagonist from “One Flew Over The Cuckcoo’s Nest”, put together by Ryan Murphy, who is known for his work with “Niptuck” and “American Horror Story”. This is a series I had seen only one trailer for before watching the piolet, having heard nothing about the connection to the iconic nurse. When this realization came, I knew this was going to be something very interesting and exciting, even with watching only the first episode. Watching this first season, I look forward to many more seasons to follow. Being that this story takes place twenty years before the events of “One Flew Over The Cuckcoo’s Nest”, there’s no doubt there’s a lot of ground to cover before everything ties into that famous story line the world knows so well.

Who Is The Lesser of Two Evils: Stephanie Meyer or E.L. James?
Insecure young girl with big dark eyes falls for a vampire who wants to kill her. Insecure young girl with big dark eyes falls for a rich bachelor who wants to beat her. These are the brief summaries of both series that created a cultural phenomenon for very different audiences; “Twilight” by Stephanie Meyer, the one for insecure teenage girls, and “Fifty Shades of Grey” by E.L. James being the one for insecure sexually frustrated housewives. Much has been said and parodied about these two pieces of fiction. The questions I’m asking are, is the criticism valid, and if so, who is the lesser of two evils?

Believe It Or Not, Johnny Depp Is The Victim Here
Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past few years, knows about the bitter separation and divorce between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. People know about the allegations made by Heard of physical and emotional abuse committed by Depp during their short marriage. In the wake of that, Amber Heard has become a spokesperson for the MeToo movement and organizations for the awareness of violence towards women. As a result of all of this, Johnny Depp has been destroyed by many in the court of public opinion, has lost jobs, not to mention he’s lost a huge fortune in regards to the legal fees all of these proceedings. Which leads to me to one question, why was it the world was so quick to jump on Johnny Depp, despite their being no evidence that he is the aggressor in this situation.

Why Are Labels So Important In The L.G.B.T.Q. Community?
Labeling myself hasn’t been something I’ve given much thought of until a few years ago. Years ago, when it came to my sexuality, I considered myself a lesbian. However, in the last few years, getting into the relationship I’ve been, looking back, and the relationship I’m in right now, I can say without hesitation that I am pansexual. The reason being I don’t think much about the gender of the person I’m attracted to. I’ve been attracted to men, women, transgender women, and transgender men. I’m not leaving out non binary people; I just haven’t been romantically attracted to someone who identifies with this term. If I did meet someone who, they would just fall in with those I’ve been attracted to over the years. My point being, if there was a label I would go with, it would be pansexual because it’s a label that fits me the best. This all being said though, why are labels almost a mandatory thing in the LGBTQ community? Is it even mandatory? All of this comes from my person experiences, along with a little bit of research, so I’m putting that out there now. That being said, lets chat about labels.
